Will I be banished from the forums for buying this coin?

NGC graded 1964 Accented Hair Kennedy Half.

I hope I can be forgiven my trespass.

(BTW, I think I stole the coin at that price).

It's a recent thing. Needed a change of pace.

Russ, how many 1964 Kennedy halves do you have?

    What is the appeal?

    Seriously, all smart-aleckiness aside.

I'm wondering what makes somebody tick, who accumulates so many identical coins. It seems rather dull to me, though I can understand the rush one of y'all gets when he cherrypicks an AH out of a "regular" set, I suppose. What do you do with them? Sell them? Hoard them? Why '64 Kennedies, or AH coins? Is there a special significance behind them?

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

You will be forgiven only if you cross it.

  • Not banished, just put on probation.
of course, you'll have to crack it out and get it into a PCGS slab !

you probably should keep it in NGC slab - after reading razorfaces thread about NGC slabbing PCGS bodybagsimage

what is your experience with NGC vs PCGS on DCAM and UDCAM? is it true NGC is stricter?
  • There ya go - buying the coin and not the plastic! image

I don't collect that series, but it sure looks nice to me I'd guess 11 on a scale of 1-10

Don't have a clue as to its value, but I don't think you've got a whole lot of downside on that coin image

Edited to add: I don't think you'll be banished from the the forum, shot maybe for grand larceny, but certainly not banished! image

C'mon now fellas. Just read the seller's description.

    sinin1,

No, they're not stricter. Nor is PCGS stricter than NGC. The two companies simply have a slightly different emphasis when granting the designation. PCGS cares more about mirror depth, NGC pays more attention to frost on the devices. Both are damned tough.

  • Russ...Russ...Russ...shame on you. After reading all the insight on this board...don't you know that PCGS coins are the BEST...all other services are merely cheap plastic around an obvious problem coin...and that you shouldn't even LOOK at a person who buys a coin that isn't in a PCGS slab.

You obviously just pi$$ed away your money on a doctored/altered/counterfeit/not worthy of the metal coin.

And PCI will slab any garbage coin and make it a PR69DCAM...... No matter how weak the mirrors, frost or how many hairlines the coin has.

hey fanofmoderns, i mean wallstreetman, i'll take this 1 for you.

The prices tell the story! I think you already know the answer! I know how some feel about NGC, but in my honest opinion, there a joke!

Russ, believe me, sometimes your not as smart as you think you are! Wallstreetman is one of the few intelligent people on this forum who understand that PCGS coins are worth the most because they are the best grading service.

Wheres the PCGS coins? Im not saying dont buy the other services slabs, just dont pay PCGS prices! We all know that PCGS coins are worth the most so if it is in a different slab there is a reason for that.

Just more proof that NGC doesn't know what it is doing. Stick to PCGS only. PCGS coins are the best! Well, you did better on your 54 S than I did on mine! Went from an ANACS MS66 to a PCGS MS64! I've had about 1 in 10 ANACS coins cross, I dont think 10% is good! This 54 Franklin is typical, was ANACS MS66, now PCGS MS64.

"When does grade not matter"? When you run out of money and you dont have the option! PCGS coins only for me! They are the best and anyone who says differently is lying to you. I confess, I bought the plastic!

They (NGC) are not good graders. Only buy PCGS coins. They are the market leader. That's amazing. Most coins in other slabs are way over graded by several points. You must have a great eye! Good Eye! Is this a money maker or one area where NGC compares to PCGS?

More proof that you should only trust PCGS coins! Be happy you only got downgraded one grade and only got one body bag. Only buy PCGS coins. They are the best! NGC can't grade coins. You are lucky they all did not get body bagged or you lost 5 or 10 grade points! Those are beautiful.

Maybe I can pick up some PCGS state quarters! They are the best! I hope it isn't the last year. They are awsome coins! I've got a PR69 Deep Cameo. Of course it's PCGS graded. Only the best for me!

Sounds about right, NGC MS65 to a PCGS MS64, maybe overgraded if it was damaged! Hello. anyone home? Collecting is about getting the best you can afford, always has been, always will be! I dont think this is a secret! How long before I can have my state quarter sets put into those holders? PCGS would not have to pay me much since it would be an honor to work for the number one best coin grading company in the world!

I think they are super the way they are! Great to hear that PCGS took care of you. I bet the other grading services would not have!
Only PCGS coins for me since I know they are superior. A * on a dog is just a dressed up dog. Some people here seem to do nothing but attack others. It is a shame that PCGS allows these people to stay on their wonderful forums and contribute nothing but trash.

take NGC to court for undergrading your coin and causing you to lose $3000!

I guess I really screwed up on this one. PCGS PR66CAMs have been bringing an average of around $60 as of late. I paid about 25% more than that. Damn, I'm an idiot.

I got this one in today. As much as I hate to hand ammunition to wallstreetboy and his twin fanofmoderns, NGC really screwed the pooch on this coin. Overgraded by at least two points. The obverse has massive hairlining of the kind that doesn't even require much experience with these to detect.

On the upside, the coin is a DCAM, so it's really a wash.
