A rare opportunity to see hairlines up close

Check out this eBay auction of a 1921 Peace dollar. The hairlines are so pronounced, they hit you over the head. Actually pretty cool to really see what massive hairlines look like.

The PRICE!

LanLord · December 8, 2003 12:35AM

A wire brush couldn't have done that dollar any good.

mrdq · December 8, 2003 12:52AM

the only doubling i see on that coin is the number of 0's in the price

XpipedreamR · December 8, 2003 12:55AM

whats the value, if any on this hairlined mess. and thanks for the great example. would assume harsh cleaning?

Fairlaneman · December 8, 2003 1:08AM

Whizzed and the value on the coin is zero.

Merc · December 8, 2003 1:16AM

The seller is crazy. Nobody is going to pay $5000 for a cleaned circulated Peace dollar. How did the seller get a feedback of 715 with coins like this?

LanLord · December 8, 2003 1:16AM

<< <i>Whizzed and the value on the coin is zero. >>

I disagree, one dollar!

Fairlaneman · December 8, 2003 1:24AM

OK... 1 Buck.

Outhaul · December 8, 2003 1:24AM

Hairlines? Don't you guys know die-polishing marks when you see them?

nwcs · December 8, 2003 1:27AM

LanLord stole my line! So I'll have to say $4.72 as the rough guess of the silver melt ask price.

Fairlaneman · December 8, 2003 1:31AM

Are you sure a decent dealer would even buy it for melt price ? On second thought probably so, just to get the slug off the market so some scum cannot try this again.

nwcs · December 8, 2003 1:33AM

Check out the seller's other auctions!

coppercoins · December 8, 2003 1:51AM

That guy is a complete idiot, has been selling non-existant die varieties on eBay for years and still hasn't been removed. I have argued with him through e-mail and he's such an idiot, he doesn't even get what he's arguing about. A complete waste of time, the thing to do, unfortunately, is to get a chance to bid on his stuff and win it so he can get some negs on his record...enough of them and he'll be gone. eBay won't do anything about him, I already tried. Without buying his crap I have no recourse to remove him.

Outhaul · December 8, 2003 1:53AM

At five-large a pop, I can ill afford to pay for this guy's negs!

Steve27 · December 8, 2003 3:04AM

Neither hairlines nor wizzed, just harshly cleaned.

baccaruda · December 8, 2003 3:09AM

I just blasted coffee out of my mouth Three's Company style when I saw the price. Hopefully it's just a big misunderstanding.

Fairlaneman · December 8, 2003 3:50AM

The obverse is whizzed, look at the movement of the metal in the pictures. Also look at the obverse of the coin and how the light reflection is solid with no cart wheel at all. I do not think the reverse is whizzed but just cleaned.

Sorry for not saying this earlier.

goose3 · December 8, 2003 3:54AM

WHOAH!

Coppercoins,

So have I, and your assessment is right on the money. He is an idiot.
