Is this coin plated, or what's the deal?

On the obverse rim about 9:00 appears to be a zinc/steel spot. I'd guess it's plated.

The pitting under the plating is consistant with "reprocessing." Being prooflike clinches it.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

"Reprocessed" steel cents were marketed in large numbers in the 1960's and 1970's. This is probably one of those coins.

No question about the reprocessing, and the mintmark variety they are reporting isn't there. They are seeing an example of a deteriorated die in the mintmark area which is extremely common for that issue.

This is the second coin I have seen auctioned by this seller that is not what they say it is. I wouldn't recommend bidding on anything they have that leaves any question as it is obvious they don't know what they are doing with die varieties - or coins for that matter.
