Hoarders of keys dates?? Which ones??

Do you know anyone that is hoarding key date coins? Of course you here about a person that SUPPOSE to have a roll of 1909-s VDB's in a safe deposit box here in Houston. I would just love to see them but here again I wonder how many are counterfeits? I collect 20centers for me but I wouldnt consider myself a hoarder but what constitutes a hoarder? 50 or more? 100 more??image

I don't know why anybody would want to hoard a particular coin.

There's the guy in CA (I forget his name) who has 500-600 1844 Seated Dimes. He tried to sell them at auction as one lot not long ago (didn't meet reserve).

The Daddy of Irish coins is the 1943 florin, of which only about 35 are known. I know of someone who has three of them- almost 10% of the population. And one of the ones he had was a PCGS MS65- maybe the finest known?

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

Key dates? No. But I am hoarding 1798 Large Cents, in the AG-VG range. I have just over 30. Only about 999,970 to go.

    Madmarty and Russ,
I believe in hoarding key date coins, along with many collectors, as an investment. Key dates go up in value. It is as simple as that. I have 15-20 Lincoln 1931-S cents. BU coins of this date are still quite affordable under a hundred bucks a coin.
Some people just have a date that is a personal favorite of theirs. I am sure their are many differn't reasons people hoard. It's all about the joy of collecting.

Hmmm... 48 more to go to get a roll of 1909-s vdb.

I'm trying to keep a roll of all 20th century coins. Have no idea why I started, wish I didn't and now I have a "hoard" of coins. Have been concentrating on a type set of late.

    Wow!

This wholesales at over $80,000 now, but such a huge number hitting the market at one
time would definitely lower the price for a while.
