SS Republic Gold and Silver Coins

Hello folks - I don't get on this side of the forums much so I don't know if these have been shown here before. These are pictures of the gold and silver coins found in the wreck of the SS Republic sank in a hurricane in 1865. There are so many and the attempt is being made to salvage them one at a time so as not to "scratch" them for numismatic reasons. They estimate each coin will be worth $20,000 - but if this many hit the market can that possibly be? Thanks for letting a darksider on for a bit.
I will only add these as attachments so you don't have to open them if you don't want - for those with dial-ups although all are small.

Funny, I was just talkin' about that to my boss.

If it sank SE of Savannah, it's right out there off our coast- I can look out the window and see that part of the Atlantic!

Cool- thanks for the update. Where'd you get the pics from?

Entertainment Tonight did an expose on the recovery Tuesday night. They tied it in with the Pirates of the Carabbean DVD release (i guess to make it more exciting to the non-collector). Showed some pretty cool shots of gold coins galore laying on the ocean bottom, said the cold water will actually preserve the gold coins.

$20,000 a piece???? Sorry, even in MS65 it is hard to see them getting over the $12,000 that type one MS65's are going for from the Central America wreck. Most of the Central America $20 gold pieces in MS63 grade are going for money closer to $5000 a piece.
