The Ronald Reagan dime story......

I didn't get to really see who was speaking this morning on Fox and friends but the issue of placing Ronald Reagan on the dime seems to be heating up on the hill. I guess there is some bill floating around up there trying to get RR on the dime. Does the U.S. mint need Washington's approval for coin designs?? image

No, it's been long enough with the current design, but no one at the mint has a set, so they will ask for permission anyway, and then probably make a poor decision on the design.

Yes, I'm negative. The whole nickel flap really ticked me off

One thing you can be sure of...the US Mint will not initiate any design changes on its own. The mint is strictly a creature of the politicians. It does what it is told, nothing more. If you expect to see any creativity or original thinking regarding coin design I think you are going to be very disappointed.

The Senate and House WILL have to get involved in this since Federal Law prohibits the likeness of any living individual being portrayed on a US coin.

the place for a Reagan visage is definitely not on a circulating issue. here we go, let's have the politicians take a good idea and screw it up again!!

JMHO, but why not use the oppurtunity to honor Reagan and benefit alzheimers sufferers in some way at the same time?? if it's done properly, a commemorative coin could be struck with the attendant surcharges going to reasearch. while he may already have a legacy to leave us, why not add to it with a worthy cause such as that??
