Two circulation strike Kennedys for submission

I picked these up an hour ago at the local shop. I told Vince, the owner what my grade evaluation was and told him I was going to send them to see how close I am. The first coin is a 1968D that I grade as MS67. The second is a 1966 that I grade as MS68. Let me know if you agree with me or not. If not, why?......Thanks, Ken

    Ken - I'll address the 1966.

First of all - I don't think it would make 68 because it doesn't look like it has enough luster - I'm sure it does, as I've seen these circulation strikes come out of rolls very nicely. The other thing is that I see just enough ticks (neck, on the field to the right of the bust, and possibly a slight rub on the face) to possibly keep it out of 68. Then of course there's the problem of having it graded SMS because it's in such good shape - how's it look in hand?

    Ken,

I'd be jumping up and down in joy for you, but it ain't going to happen. I see MS65 on the '68-D and MS66 on the 1966, (if they don't stick it in an SMS holder). Too many hits on the '68-D and it doesn't have the "look" to get it a bump to MS66. The 1966 is pretty clean, but the luster appears too weak to go better than MS66.

An MS67 1968-D would be a pop 10/0 coin and an MS68 1966 would a pop 2/0 coin. For PCGS to be willing to make those, the coins literally have to knock their socks off.

Frank, the 66 looks just fabulous in hand. I don't think there will be any problem distinguishing it from an SMS....Ken

Tell that to the graders at PCGS...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I think they both need a dip & isn't that a ding to the left of "HALF" on the 1966??? image
