Grade this 1880 Proof Morgan - PCGS Grade posted

Getting this one for a fair price (I think) from a dealer. Just looking for your opinions before I close it. Some strike weakness (not wear) on the reverse. I looked at 4 other 1880 Morgan Proofs and all the strikes looked a little weak to me.

Proofs are very hard to judge from a picture. Just make sure you can return it if you hate it.

Wolf359, I realize this is not a direct answer to your question, but, I think it is perhaps an even more important one.

I would recommend that you NOT spend that amount of $ (whatever the precise sum is) on an uncertified coin. Too many things can be wrong with it and there is too much financial risk. Just my opinion.

Proof coins are virtually impossible to grade from images. The grade limiting factor on a proof coin is hairlines and they are just not visible on a scan or digital picture unless they are extreme. I agree with Mark. There are a lot of certified proof Morgans out there wait for a nice one or better yet buy one at a coin show.

Thanks you all for the advice. There is a 14 day (in writing) return. The dealer also graded the coin after showing it to 3 potential buyers as a PR63. I will scour it for carefully for hairlines, etc....

14 days is enough time to get it graded express ($50).
It might be worth it depending how much you paid for the coin.

dont take it personal but i,m gonna bash your coin some.

also note i,m reading this from your pic and scan grading is tenuative at best so, here goes....

the coin looks worked on. think i can detect hairlines in the fields.
not sure of the cheek area too. it almost looks photoshopped to blur defects there.

the coin looks nice at first glance, but closer inspection would be required.

if BB`d for altered surfaces, ANACS could always slab it, but may not be as marketable with
the word CLEANED on the insert.

Either the image has been worked-on or the fields are very hazy. Thus, it's hard to grade this coin, but PR63 seems generous to me. (Even low grade proofs are usually beautiful, this one looks like a MS coin.)

I forgot to add. I'm paying 61 money, so there's a margin for error on the grading.
