1922 Lincoln, how many minted and do any of you have one, if so what's your grade
Would anyone venture a guess as to the mintage of the 22 Plain Lincoln, strong reverse? Also if you have one, what is the grade of yours. I have a F12. Also where do you see the value of this coin going in the years to come.

I don't own one, but would love a nice red mint state example. I can't remember reading about mintage estimates, so I can't be much help there either.
It's (this goes without saying) no more than could be minted with a single die pair. So if you look at historical information on how many cents the mint produced per die pair, you would have a theoretical maximum. At least close, anyway.

You have to remember though that the obv die was already being used past the end of its normal life. If more obverses had been available it would have been retired much earlier. Now di life back then was probably in the neighborhood of 400,000 pieces or so and his obverse was very close to the end of that when it was repolished and the mintmark removed. My guess (no data to back it up) would be probably not more than 50,000 coins. (Consider that these always come with the rev sharp. The obverse was retired before the reverse had a chance to experience any serious wear.)

Stewart,
You never cease to amaze.
This coin is not too tough to find in VF or lower but is very rare in EF and above. I have one NGC graded VF35. That grade drive me insane. It is so close to an EF. The holder is badly scratched so I need it reholdered before I can show a nice picture of it.

I have no clue about a mintage, but like any key coin in a popular series, you have to like the long-term prospects for holding and/or increasing in value.

I also own a PCGS ms 65 R/B that is 90% red

Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Paul, that is the reddest 22 plain I have ever seen. I was curious to know what Stewart's 64 red looked like, but he didnt have any photo's avaible when I asked him while back!
Does anyone know how many NGC has graded unc?

<< <i>That 1922 plain is unreal. Here it is hard to tell if it is fully red or 95% red with some mellowing. Still, these are so rare uncirculated. Stewart, you have full control of the 1922 unc market. How did you do it?

There are a few NGC MS-61 , 62 graded 22 No "d" that would not grade better than 55 at PCGS if submitted raw.!!
There are a few members here that will back me up on this, maybe not on record, but there out thier.
I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.
