Bogus 1801 half on ebay - altered 1807

NysotoNysoto Posts: 3,832 ✭✭✭✭✭
ebay 2204894113. Old trick of tooling the upper part of the 7 on an 1807 half to make it look like a 1. The coin is an 1807 O.106, several bidders competing against this fake.

I see Baley caught this earlier. This is the third fake "1801" I have seen on ebay, this one is already bid to $225. I sent a note to the seller, I am leaving town in a couple of hours and won't be able to contact the winning bidder and let him know its a fake, perhaps someone else can.

What is that big flat area? It looks like it got hit on the reverse. Counterstamp, maybe?

Never mind. I just clicked the link.

There's a picture of a turkey over the coin. A subliminal message.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
