Need ebay advice

BarryBarry Posts: 10,100 ✭✭✭
Winning bidder emails me about 10 minutes after auction ends saying he hasn't heard from me yet, please contact him(!) I respond, and the email bounces (unknown user). Double checked address and it's correct. Tried emailing him thru ebay and it also bounces. Got contact info and phone number is invalid. Bidder has been on Ebay for 3 years and all positives. Ideas?

BTW, Does anyone have a good contact link for ebay? I clicked on their "email us" in one of the help screens, and it just takes me in circles back to another help screen!

I have had a few of those, they paid with Paypal and everything was good!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

This guy asked me for my address to send a check, so no Paypal here.

could be that your email address is being blocked as spam....I would contact ebay and put it on record so that if he negs you ...you can get it removed.... maybe you can try emailing him using a different email address?

Don't think I'm the one being blocked, as I tried to contact him via Ebay's contact system as well, with the same results. This is what I get in response to my email:

Your message has encountered delivery problems
    to the following recipient(s):

    tareamon@gw.dec.state.ny.us
    (Was addressed to tareamon@gw.dec.state.ny.us)
    Delivery failed
    550 No such recipient

No recipients were successfully delivered to.

Makes me think the problem is on his end.

Many companies and governmental agencies have filters on incoming email. Since his address looks to be some kind of state agency, then they probably don't allow your email in. Are you using yahoo or hotmail email. I have seen this before. A solution is to use an address that ends in .org, .us or a major .com one. PM me if you need assistance. I just shot a test email to that addr and it did not bounce back, yet. Also, as mentioned earlier, it could be they were having problems on their end.

My test email just bounced back with the same msg you received. Must be on their end as you had thought. It says no such recipient so either this person has left that company or their end is down.

dec.state.ny sounds like the Department of Environmental Conservation here in New York State. I think dougwtx is correct here - email is being filtered.

imageNot everyone on ebay is on the level! I can name Names of several sellers that have terrible feedback-like 30 negatives within the past month, 8 in a week and STILL these 736e9234s are able to sell, making ebays rules and regulations utterly useless. No accountability and the way ebay has their disclaimer worded they(ebay) cannot even be held resonsible for culpability/negligence! I recently read a startling stastistic that roughly 80% are crooked as was recently brought to public attention when a counterfeit Platinum Eagle was sold there. When I first hooked up with ebay 3 of the first 5 transactions were nightmares! I got taken for $1000 between the 3. I filed complaints with the FBI Internet Fraud Division and the USPS for mail fraud and to this day I have yet to hear from any watchdog or law enforcement agency! I have a cancelled check yet never received goods-it's marked "for deposit only" This vendor -even with terrible feedback, which I absolutely nothing about at the time was a FEATURED EBAY STORE! The day my check cleared is the day ebay shut them down! GREAT! Well, I'm not done. I have all my proof positive and am going to my District Attorney and do my best to recoup my money and put these people behind bars! Square Trade is useless as for 2 weeks theey could mot locate any of the 3 yet I could reach them every night by telephone. They have all now moved on! Your best bet is to conduct business with someone like me-a fellow Board Member/member of the ANA with 100% positive feedback! Beware of sellers that only accept checks and money orders. Come visit me(pittbreeder) and if I don't have it listed -it doesn't mean I do not have it! Find a handful of trustworthy sellers and DO NOT STRAY! Bottom line...all ebay is concerned with is the almighty dollar made EVERY DAY with Thousands of new items being posted being charged insertion fees/picture fees/ Buy it now and reserve fees...not to mention FINAL FEES and if you do not maintain a PERSONAL paypal account, pay pal/owned by ebay will fee you to death as well! If you think ebay will stick up for you -you're dead wrong! On e of the guys that screwed me was right back trying to sell a 32-D quarter that he had advertised as GEM 64 when actually it had been Brasso'd and scoured with a Brillo pad. These weren't hairlines. They were more like drainage canals! Did they stop him when I drew this to their attention on Day 1 of a 7 day listing -NO. They let him sell but I went out on a limb and virtually ratted on him to over 100 bidders that all retacted their bids when I showed them what the original item # was and how it looked in the light!

As a last resort you can rate the transaction and type in "your emails are bouncing back please provide an alternative email."

Its called a firewall. Since 9/11 all state agencies have been required to beef up IT security. The least expensive and easiest thing they can and do, do is to put up a firewall. Many, filter anything to do with E-Bay.

I'm having the same problem except the email address provided by the buyer is @excite.com. I sent an invoice through Paypal two days ago-it was returned. I sent a personalized email today and it was returned, too. It shows them as having registered in June 2003 and they have a feedback rating of 0. image

When I get that problem, I use the send invoice feature from my Ebay.

Boom, the only time I have been ripped off was in a transaction with a fellow board member. So far eBay has been a cakewalk.
