1943-S Lincoln - incredible frost and luster pics -- NEW CLOSE UPS!

DMWJRDMWJR Posts: 6,106 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm working on my photo skills, and thought I would share a coin that I submitted last year for grading. I was "hoping" for a 68, but got a 67. To me, this coin is so much more alive than the 68's that I have seen.

Wow, never seen one that nice. Steel cents are probably the most common non-collector coin out there....

I can't quite get the pictures to show the black(blue) and white contrast. Here's another attempt:

The "soft" reverse "O" kept it from 68. But-it's a beauty, that's for sure!

An uber clean steel cent. Why not crack it and resubmit.

Nice picture! Here's my suggestion for getting the contrast- hold your camera over the coin, and slowly move the light back and forth and forward/backwards until you get the contrast to show in your LCD... that'll do it image

OK, I tinkered with the color a little, and now the picture looks just like the coin. It really has blue mirrors and frosted devices!

Nice, but I would not have given it a 68. Maybe it's the disruptions on the frost that distract me. Don't get me wrong; it's an awesome-looking coin, and PQ for a 67.

I've always had 66's or 67's in the past. To me, the exponential price leap up to a 68 just isn't worth it.

Of course, if you make your own 68, you're on Sweet Street. Nice try.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

I still hoard every BU one I get!

Recently gave one to my 7 year old niece, here was the conversation:

    My Niece: "Wow, it's SILVER!"
Me: "No honey, it's steel. See back during World War II, they needed the copper for the war, so they made these out of steel"
    My Niece: "oh"
    a few minutes later.....
Her Mom: "wow honey, what did you get from Uncle Bob?"
My Niece: "This, and it's SILVER!"
