Honestly, your question doesn't have an answer... it's the camera, NOT the picture size that matters. If you camera doesn't have a good macro, you won't get a good shot... PERIOD. It's the camera's macro abilities, not picture size...

    atarian,

Not sure what your asking. Recommendations? If so, I use the Ricoh RDC-4300 which is 1.3M.

I agree with what was said. It's the camera, not the # megapixels, that really matters. The problem is that you can't really use more than about 1 or 2 megapixels anyway due to the file size limitation. Even then, you still have to usually compress the large file size when creating a .jpg file. You just need a camera with a good macro lens.

    DD,

That's not really true... the more MP you have, the better quality you'll get when you scale down... or, the better closeups you can get. The closeups are really a great thing, and when zooming and focusing distances reach their limit, the best closeups are from the largest pictures.

Of course, you still do have to crop them image

I disagree. For me, my Sony Cyber-shot works better with the lower 1.3 megapixel resolution and close-up macro focusing. If I use a higher resolution, I end up having to focus further away and then cropping the picture like you said. If I focus closer to begin with using lower resolution, I end up with the same result, only better.

Oh, for me, it's simply a matter of the size of the original... zoom is what effects macro distance image

We still don't know what camera you have... however, I will venture to say that you cannot, as few of the older cameras accept lenses, and 1.3 MP cameras haven't been made for a while...

Does anyone use the Canon Elph Series, s100, s200, etc. with any success? I have an s100 and can't get it to take a good Macro shot. Is it the camera, or me?
