Poll: Camera lighting preference- what do you prefer?

#1 Three lights above coin. I tried to match brightness as closely as I could.

#2 Three lights above plus light diffuser (white plastic shopping bag)

I like both of them for different reasons. I like the velvety texture and detail of the diffuse light and the direct show the mirrors (not PL but not too far from it) and lettering better.

Both images are excellent. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I think direct is best for most lustrous coins and circs. I have used diffuse for proofs with some success and for state quarters too, for some reason. I always try direct first and only use diffuse if I have problems.

Edited to add that I like the first pic better but would be more than satisfied with either.

It depends on the coin... sometimes toning only comes out with diffusion to reduce a glare; sometimes diffusing doesn't leave enough light to show luster...
