Ever see a PR1 coin?

I am watching the Superior live auction right now. It is fascinating. I just saw my very first PR1 coin! It was a 1793 large cent graded PCGS PR1! I still couldn't afford it (sold for $1100, not counting buyer's premium)! image

I saw that one on ebay. Looked like a pretty rough planchet besides the obvious lack of detail.

I certainly wouldn't pay that kind of money for that piece.

PR01, or PO01? Since you are referring to a Chain cent, I suppose you mean the latter. (Poor-01, not Proof-01).

I've never heard of a proof in basal state. The lowest-graded proof I can ever recall seeing was PR06- I think it was a Gobrecht dollar.

Cool...first PR1 I've ever seen. There's a first for everything, and now we can see we've seen that.

Yeah, it did go for big bucks. I think the live auctions generate higher prices. Pretty bizzare!

Lordmarcovan, you may be right. This could be a typo, but I'm not sure. It might me PO01...

Unfortunately, you cant see the PCGS slab, but it says "PR1 " in the title. But, reading the details again, it says "Large Cents: 1793 S-4 R3+ PCGS graded poor-1" So...a title typo I guess.

    short-lived first. :-)

I checked the PCGS price guide, and there are no proofs for this date. I concur that this is a typo.

no proof 1793 cents were made. It is a Poor 1 coin.

I wonder what the buyer saw on the obverse. I could not see anything.
