If/when PCGS adds the 1972 Variety I & II to the price guide; what do you think the prices will be? The Variety III is listed as $260.00 in 65, and 1800 in 66...

So what is the justification for the exponential price jumps between one point grades.

That said, the prices should be much higher.
Now, if the question was about what the Coin Guide prices will be, they will most likely be 1/2 of what you mention. I've written David Hall numerous times telling him how out of whack those prices are. For the most part, coins under $200 are over pirced, and coins over $500 are underpriced.
People see 1972-S Ike in PCGS MS68 sell for 50% of the price guide price, than think they can buy the really rare stuff for that same discount.
I just tell them sell me some at the price guide "retail" price. Of course they have no inventory, because I own a lot of it, so they go away!

T1, MS63, $125, MS64, $300
T2, MS63, $150, MS64, $500
T3, MS63, $25, MS64, $50
Check out a Vanguard Roth IRA.
I'd say you're pretty close. That's about what they trend for on Ebay, which is what I use for a guide. I use the PCGS price guide too, but, as segoja pointed out, I can usually get coins at 50 to 60 percent of the price guide prices. That doesn't work when you get to the rare IKEs such as the 1971 (P), all the 1972 (P) varieties, and the 1976 (P) variety 1 to name a few. I just won a 1971 PCGS MS65 at auction tonight @ $256.77... That's right on with the PCGS Price guide @ $260.00. I feel that I got a good deal as you just don't see them for sale that often....rare???
PCGS MS65 Type 1 $700.00: slight over priced. $700 is for a very nice MS65. For a typical, you should be able to find them around $450 today.
PCGS MS66 Type 1 $3,800.00: Good luck. I paid 5 digits to get the pop one coin. I will buy at least 5 sign-unseen for the price PCGS listed. I put my $$$ where my words are.
PCGS MS65 Type 2 $1,500.00: Good luck to find one at this price. It is not impossible but ...... Before PCGS put type II on its holder, it changed hands between $800 and $1000 18 months ago. MS64 was $100 18 months ago (now $250 to $300).
PCGS MS66 Type 2 $10,000.00: Never mind. I don't think the current owners would sell it at this price. Go and make one.
PCGS MS65 Type 3 $450.00: Over priced. $450 is for a very nice one. $250 to $350 is for an average one. Check out the ebay.
PCGS MS66 Type 3 $2,500.00: I need one. I will pay at least double NOW. Sell one to me.

Between JC and I, we own over half the MS66 1972-P population, and they're not going anywhere!

That's waaaay too high for the Ty1 in MS63 or MS64.
Also too high for Ty3 in MS63, and it'd have to be a pretty special MS64 to bring $50.
Both Ty1 and Ty3 do bring something of a premium in nice MS64 because the gems are expensive, but in MS63 they aren't really worth anything unless they have pretty toning or something.
My prices were just guesses.
So, those of you who have spoken, what would be a reasonable price for a type 2 in 65 and 66?

If that's what people (Ebay or not) are willing to pay; then it would appear that is what they are worth...JMO
I think dollardude's prices are right on the money as far as Ebay's "market value." Is there someplace else to find these coins other than shows? I know that Supercoin (Tad) offers the Type 1 @ 63 for less than Ebay because I grab them everytime I see them. My most recent at $33.00 for a 63 Type 1...better than Ebay, but I don't see ANY for sale anywhere else.

The Type 1 MS63 I sold recently for $33 was because it had nice toning.
The most I've ever sold a Type 1 MS64 for was $60, for a nice lustrous example with gem+ eye appeal.
The most I've ever sold a Type 3 MS64 for was $50, again for gem+ eye appeal.
There's no question the Type 1 in particular is a tough coin and fresh supplies are drying up, but... if they are currently bringing the big premiums mentioned in MS63-64, I would say that is more due to a temporary lack of supply in the newly attributed holders.

I think I'm pretty close on the T1 and T2, as the eBay bidding on these is aggressive.
BTW, if you have a nice T1 PCGS MS64, I'd like to buy it. I know the most you've ever sold one for was $60, so I won't argue with that!

The 72-P Type II in 65 will run around $2250-2400. I'd sell one at that level if someone wants to PM me. (this coin is subject to prior sale)
MS64's around $450 I'd sell some at that level.
MS66...with only two graded would cost you around $15,000-17,500 to coax one of the two out.

I sent it to PCGS and it came back as an MS64. That was my best on these.
Never found any at shows. But, then again, never really looked.

Unfortunately I don't have any more for sale other than an MS65 which is on eBay now -- and which I expect should top $1500 if the MS64 go for that much!
