How 'bout one with the "broken 8" variety?

(You know, the one where the 8 in the date is missing its left half, and looks more like a 3?) image

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

Most of the replies are coins that don't meet one of my criteria.... one has a mark free coin but is dull... one has a blast white coin but has marks on the cheek.... one is a ICG..... etc....

    Still looking....

    Peaceman: What is specs?

Also how can you find any Peace Dollars without any marks in the face or the fields in front of the face (meaning bagmarks?) in AU-50 to the lower mint state grades? Do they exist?

Also is any toning considered less desirable in this case?

    Just trying to learn,

    Thanks.

Just look at the start of this thread. It will explain what I'm looking for. I don't like toning as it doesn't add to the eye appeal in my opinion.
  • Options
I also have a PCGS AU-58 that looks better than some 63's and doesn't have any marks on it...
  • Options
pop it and resubmit it then! image

Edited to add: As oreville said, it is very difficult to find what you are looking for.. The way you want the coin would almost mean it is going to be high grade, with no marks, etc. in the fields and cheek. When you are going to find an AU or low MS grade coin there is bound to be some marks on the coin, otherwise it wouldn't be that grade.

    Peaceman: You said:

<< <i> No toning, specs or yellow patina >>

    My question: What is "specs?"

I am really stumped on this one.

Also a second question: No marks to the naked eye or with a glass?

Possibly a link to a picture of your AU-58 might be instructive?

Peaceman, I just got my 1928 Peace back from PCGS about a week ago. She graded MS62, and is white. She is now in my registry set. I don't want to sell her, but check her out just for grins at dan'speaces.

What does "homemade" mean in your registry description for your 28'?

    Peaceman -

Great choice to collect/invest/"stash away." The 21 and 28 are my favorites in this series. If I weren't so addicted with the 94-P and 93-CC Morgans, I'd join you, although I'd stop at MS63. Good luck and give us a score card on your progress

My "GOAL" is to fill a PCGS slab holder with all PCGS MS64 1928 Peace dollars that are blast white and have no marks on the face or field in front of the face. That's 20 in all or roughly $ 13,000 - $ 15,000 worth.

After several months of looking and upgrading at all grades at 64 and under, I've come to the conclusion that this will be almost impossible to complete. I thought I could do it before Xmas but it looks like it will take me several years to do it. The problem is that I'm very picky about what I buy. It has to be blast white and clean even with no light and the 28's are notoriously off/dull white or yellow.

I have about 17 in all different grades that are truely remarkable (PCGS/NGC) after about 5 months of searching at EVERY show/Ebay and the like.......

If you go to all of the major coin web sites and type in peace dollars.... EVERY Peace dollar date comes up but the 28'...... if they finally get one in... it's garbage and it gets bought within 2 days.....?

    So the hunt continues.....

I made it myself by smelting my own silver, mixing in the 10% copper, producing a die, and striking the planchet! image

Seriously, I bought her last year raw from Wade Moore, a famous dealer who refuses to do anything on the web. He usually just does shows. I sent her in myself to be graded -- elcheapo economy submission -- about six weeks door-to-door time. I was expecting AU55, and was shocked to get MS62. I'll take it! I think I lucked out on this one. After all was said and done, I probably doubled my money on her. That was not my intention, but I was just lucky.

Can you post a few of your blast white ones here, so that we can drool over them?

Baseball. Glad you found a nice coin you can enjoy. I've sold some slightly off white 64's for over $ 900 that I thought were so-so. I usually pick up 64's between $ 600 and $ 720.

I'll try to put some pics up tonight.

Sorry that I don't have one to sell, but I am looking to buy one in the 58-62 grade range, if you have any that you would need to get rid of so you can upgrade to the 64s. I PMed the guy with the ANACS 61, but didn't care for it either.

Thank you very much for your time

I have an MS61 for sale that I bought from a board member. I think it is PQ with light yellow toning. Let me know if you're interested.

None are really for sale right now. You can easily find yellow, or off white coins with hits if that's what you are looking for..... IM me and tell me what your needs are and what you'd pay. Thanks.
