Wow... the difference 30 seconds in photoshop makes... (photo fixed)
Since I just shot a ton of toners, I decided I'd do a little learning as I cropped the pictures... I chose this liberty nickel to be my subject. I just wanted to see exactly how easy it was to make colors much more vibrant without lowering image quality (ie making it grainy, losing colors with too much contrast, etc...)
Note: The enhanced picture is NOT my usual picture... I try to make photos look just like the coin, and nothing more. Rest assured, my first photo looks like the coin, and I would never try to deceive anyone with the bottom picture... I just don't want ANY misunderstandings regarding my intentions with this post, which is merely to be educational
Here are the results:
What I think to be very accurate:

This took no time at all...

Obviously, someone who cared to deceive would have taken the coin and put it on a new background so the slab didn't show up funky... but hey, I just wanted to show my findings.
If anyone cares, I can do some more
Jeremy

Will you take six bucks for that $10.00 piece of junk?
They ARE the same picture - both link to http://jkwd.com/coins/coins/jkcp_examples/1905_5c_pcgs64_tone_rev_sm.jpg

You got the same picture. Try it again.
I'm sure Photoshop can make a difference.

What a difference paying attention to the fact that something didn't copy makes

You're last person I expected to find doctoring coins
If so you apparently have a future on eBay.

<< <i>I think many of us prefer the first, but I bet if you put these "two" coins up on ebay, the second would sell for a lot more money. And the lesson I take from this is the lesson that I think Jeremy (and others, including some of Russ's work) makes, which is never believe a photograph from a seller you do not know. >>
Yup
<< <i>Could this be the coin ?
Yes, but that won't appeal to the toning nuts
