Is this a real error? Doubled "United" on rev.

    That's gotta be the most extreme re-tooling of a die ever, if that's what it is. Somebody help this guy!

    I have never seen extreme doubling like that, the 55 Lincoln is the most extreme I've seen.??

    It's a well know fake manufacured in China It's worth melt value + coolness factor.


    The coin is dated 1845 if it helps.

    Close on the date, It's a 1846.
    It's just an eye catcher that just one word is that doubled.

    However, in answer to your question, I do believe it is possible that only a word, or a small portion can be doubled, or better yet, affected by some phenomena that doesn't affect the whole side.

    Of course, that example is so dramatic, it would seem virtually impossible that no other detail of the legend would be affected.
