Where were you Nov.22,1963?

I remember the day vividly. We (my family) were all riveted to the television for the week. I remember clearly it was the first murder I witnessed. Lee Harvey Oswald's was the second. The funeral parade, his son's salute, Arlington cemetary. It seems like yesterday. How could 40 years have passed so quickly.

I was with my mom and grandmother doing a little early Christmas shopping at a store called White Front.The TV's in the back were on and people were crying and watching the news as it developed..I had turned 11 years old.

I was in the 5th grade. It happened when we we in the cafeteria at lunchtime. The rest of the school day was sitting in class listening to the teacher's radio.

I was supposed to go to a classmate's birthday party after school that day, but it was canceled.

Even then, I didn't believe Oswald did it, at least not alone.

I was in Kindergarten (in Santa Ana, Cal.), I remember walking home (several miles, but that was okay in the age of Camalot) and finding my mother slumped over the sink sobbing, crying - uncontrollably. I didn't quite understand the gravity of the whole thing.

The next day on my way to Kindergarten, some older kids told me and a friend I walked with, that some house along the way, was where the guy that killed the President lived. Well, we ran like race horses past that house for the remainder of the year. It wasn't until some years later that I realized that I had been fooled by some older kid

Weird stuff to remember stuff that long ago - yet it seems like yesterday!

Junior in High School, 11th grade and in the Algebra II or Trig class I believe. Certainly this upset the little farming town.

I was at home, took the day off from 11th grade to get packed to go on a church retreat. It rained the whole weekend as we watched history unfold in Dallas. Very depressing time.

............... Mrs. Jevnikar's 3rd grade class at St. William School in Euclid, Ohio when the announcement came over the PA system. they sent everyone home and when i got there my mom was glued to the television set. BTW, November 22nd just so happens to be my dad's birthday and don't have any recollection of much celebrating that night.

Mrs. Edward's 11th grade English class when the principal spoke over the inter-com that Kennedy had been shot. The teacher ask that we all pray that our president would be 'ok'. Gee how things have changed in 40 years

I was in my third grade classroom when it was announced in P.S. 116 in NYC (33rd St. between 2nd and 3rd Ave's)

All the teachers were in the hallways crying and we were let go early that day. It seemed like time stood still for the rest of the day.

I was in 2nd grade at the time. The Principal interrupted the class, called the teacher over to the corner in the front of the room and whispered something in her ear. She started crying, and it seemed an eternity before she pulled herself together enough to tell us what had happened.

The next month was my 8th birthday, and my father took me to the department store and told me I could pick my own present up to $10. I selected Profiles In Courage.

In my high school Latin class when first news of the shooting was announced. In the high school cafeteria when the announcement was made that President Kennedy was dead.

history class 7th grade. that was a freakie day! Not in any way am I making light of 9-11 but terrorish(spelling?) happens all the time. Kennedy was the president. that orswell/rubie thing was creapy.

Inport, Yokosuka, Japan. Returning to ship after O'nite liberty.
About 0600. Cabbie heard news on radio. Didn't speak any english. Tried to tell me what happened; pointing his hand like a gun, to his head, and making "boom" noise. Scared me to death. I thought I had a physco cabbie. Marine at gate explained. Ship went to GQ, and got underway. A day I'll never forget!

I was in the fifth grade and my class was in the library. The librarian sent us back to our room and our teacher told us what had happened. Some kids started crying, I felt kind of numb.

Grade school, second grade. I recall the principle coming to the door crying (they were all nuns), and then our class teacher also began crying and asked all of us to line up to go to the gymnasium. We all gathered there and were told of the tradgedy. The nuns were crying a lot. We were asked to pray and pray we did. We were let out as soon as they could get the buses in to take us home. When I arrived home my mom was crying and we sat and watched the TV. I don't remember too much except everyone was crying and sad. At the time I could not relate to what was happening, I was too young only being 7 at the time.

I was in second grade. I can still see the speaker in the classroom, where the principals voice was coming from, while he addressed the school about what happened. When I got home my mother was sitting in a chair watching the TV, with tears in her eyes.

I was in my 12th grade physics class, the only subject that I ever failed. I went to two different synagogues that evening and went downtown DC for a memorial procession, from the Capitol to the funeral, I guess. I do not quite remember the specifics. It has been forty years and so much has happened since.

On a numismatic note, I believe that the silver $ rush at the treasury had just finished, but it was not anything that I participated in, as I was just a little wheeler dealer then, and did not have any money. Other dealers in the area were quite active, however.

3rd grade, Hopkins, Minn. The teacher had us sing the National Anthem and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Won't ever forget it.

I was in fourth grade, I remember it like it was yesterday. We had a general announcement from the principal. He asked us all to put down our heads and say a prayer.

(How I wish they would not have thrown God out of our classrooms, today.)

Eight grade Civics test. Teacher's name was Ted Pina. He handed out the papers and then the loudspeaker came on. "Three shots fired at the President in Dallas." You could have heard a pin drop. I don't know how much longer, but it seemed like forever. . . "President Kennedy is dead." They let us out of school and everybody, teachers, girls, guys, were crying. My friends and I used the additional daylight time to go play football in our favorite field by the reservoir. I go out for the first pass, put up my right hand and crunch. Compression fracture of the right hand, fourth finger, On my ride up to the doctor's, my mother told me it served me right for disrespecting the day. I remember it like it was last week. I also saw Jack Ruby shoot Oswald live on TV over at my friend's house the next day or so. Our 13 yr old jaws dropped to the floor. I saw the Greta Van Sustren show on Fox last night with a lot of film I have never seen before. Don't miss it. The Warren Commission Report still makes no sense after 40 years!

I remember the funeral more than the assasination. It was the first time London came to a dead standstill for a moment of silence. All the buses and cars stopped in their tracks. It was the most moving thing I had seen up to that point.
