What can I submit to use up my grading certificate?

This is an intresting topic from another thread, because I have to go and try to find four coins to submit for my free grading at PCGS. Usually the coins I purchase are already PCGS holdered. So when ever they send me the free submission form from the new membership, I often wonder what in the world am I going to use the free grading on.

I want to try to find something worth while to submit, something that would be worth a little premium being slabbed vs raw. I thought about going around to a few shows and picking up some coins to submit. Maybe a few lower grade key dates or even some nice Morgan's. I even considered a few moderns, but wouldnt know where to start in that arena. Maybe I could find some segs or ICG coins that are correctly graded submit them to pcgs to enhance the value? or look around for some undergraded PCGS coins break-em and try those for a higher grade?

any suggestions would be helpful???

UMMM! By golly I think I've got it!...I'll send you 4 coins that I wish to submit (I'll even cover postage), you can submit them under your cert and mail'em back to me. It's justa thought!...

Coins worth over $300 or errors get the most bang for the certificates. I have a raw 1978-D clipped Ike I'd like graded.

Are you saying that it's not worth getting slabbed if it's not worth about $300+?? I don't think any of my coins are worth $300+

I wouldn't slab a coin unless it's worth over $500, or it's a commonly counterfeited coin (16-D, 22 no D, etc.). At $300, that's 10% of its value wasted on plastic!

No I didn't say that. I said coins worth more than $300 get more bang for the free grading certificate. Coins over $300 cannot be graded economy or modern.

if you usually buy certified coins, have you got any non-PCGS you would like to crossover?

or maybe 4 coins you would like to send in for grade review?

I'm curious -- if you mostly buy already graded coins and don't have 4 coins you want to submit, why did you join the Collectors Club?

The membership is only $100, even though as stated a majority of the coins I buy are already holdered I still like having a membership so I can submit under any type tier, if need be. Thing, is if I pick up a coin thats not holdered, I usually just send it in under express, so that I can get it back faster. The problem with the four free thing is you have to send four at the same time, which I usually never have.

But you all have given me some good idea's, Over the next month or so, I will look around and try to pick up a few items to submit from your suggestions.

I do not currently own any NON-PCGS holder coins !(that would be worth holdering)

As far as the grade review, I have three pieces that would have a possible shot at upgrading, but two are in older green holders (funny thought after Mark Felds thread) which I prefer to leave that way, and the other I would only consider by walkin at a major show.

What can I submit to use up my grading certificate?
