Numismedia vs. Coinworld

I am looking to subscribe to one of these two, I do not know enough about either to make a decision, can anyone tell me what they like/dislike about either, or why I should choose one over the other? Is there any other publication I should consider? Thanks

I get Coin World, I thought is was okay, then I read the column about grading services.

I subscribe to coinworl. It seems to be able to provide timely info and interesting features that target both young, novice and seasoned collectors as well. Tries to be all things to all people, which can be both good and bad at times. Tons of ads, but that is to be expected.

    Good luck

I've been a Coin World subscriber for about a year and will probably not renew. Too many ads for me. The online edition helps since I can ignore the ads a little easier. I guess it's ok if you want to know the latest coin-related news, especially U.S. mint related. Suprisingly most of the articles are uninteresting to me, and I love to read about coins.

Coin World and Numismatic News are really newsapers...more current events type stuff with some articles thrown in.

I think Coins and Numsimatist are really magazines...more articles and some current event type stuff thrown in.

They are really two different types of animals..

Those are two very different animals. Are you sure you don't mean "Numismatic News"?

Edited to say: Actually, whatever you meant, if you're only going to subscribe to one publication, go for Coin World.

I subscribe to Coinworld, but will not renew. Its like subscribing to the Want Ad Press. Entirely to much advertising. With that amount of advertising it should cost half of the going subscription rate.

Numismatic News sucks overall. It has for 30 years. I've been a CW subscriber since around 1970. Lots of good advertisements to help check pricing. Auction and coin show calendar is useful too. For 70 cents an issue it is a bargain. If you can't pull a dollar's worth of info out of this each week within 15 minutes, you need another hobby.
It is a nice concise update of what is going on in the world of coins.

The CW price guide is constantly getting revamped and as a whole, kicks but over all the other guides. Many collectors (and dealers) go by CW pricing as a guide. The buy ads, esp for common type and key date coins, gold type too, is somewhat helpful. You get a free classified ad each year when you resubscribe. Hey, it's worth a few bucks.

I have no idea what Numismedia is but if it is related to PCGS, it has inherent bias.

I use www.numismedia.com for their fair market value pricing guide

I don't really like all the ads and articles (which occasionally have a good one) in any of the ones mentioned

I now just go with "Coin Prices" from Krause that comes out every couple months.

What are you looking for? current values. current numismatic topics, advertisers who can sell you stuff, history of series, newspaper - magazine ...?? answer those questions and then we can answer you better.

I've lost faith in Coin World. At least one of their major advertisers falsely advertises
their coins. Coin World's written policy forbids the selling of cleaned coins or
"Gem brilliant Uncirculated" coins which do not make a MS-63 or better grade.

When I wrote them to advise that I had been sold coins that were bodybagged
for cleaning or graded as circulated, I was told they'd had few complaints and I
should learn to recognize problem coins !

So much for looking out for their readers. Advertiser's dollars run the show !!!
