What should be on the Minnesota quarter ?
I submitted the design (link below) with the help of Minnesota resident Dan Floyd.
I'm sure that the rendering will never make it to the US Mint, but I enjoyed creating
it just the same.

<< <i>...but what is up with the hint of the Northstars? i didnt think hockey had anything to do with it. lol . but really what is the deal with the north star in it. any state has the ability of using the north star logo... >>
Uh, sorry to break it to ya, but MN is also called the North Star State (the northernmost point in the 48 contiguous states.) It has nothing to do with the former MN North Stars. In theory, any state could use the north star logo, but the other states (except Alaska I suppose) just don't have the same connection with being called the North Star State.
After I finished my first version of it, I happened to be going through some coins and came to a silver Canadian quarter. The similarities were "striking"
Oh well.

Minnesota's official motto is "The Star of the North".

I think the Minnesota quarter committee has already shot down the loon idea, partly due to Canada's use of it. They could do the same to mine. But at least mine is a moose and their's is a caribou.
how about taking out the "N" in the circle and put in the MN outline? what is that on there? is it a moose or cariboo? do they have those in MN - I haven't seen any and have lived here 15 yrs.
I like the simple uncluttered design.
If you change it - maybe some wheat or corn - 150 years ago wheat milling was very big in Minneapolis - starting Pillsbury - also Cargill got started with many small corn/grain mills on major rivers and railroads -> turning both into international food middlemen sucking money from farmers and keeping them basically slaves
The mint seems to favor the hodgepodge/potpourri approach to the design of these quarters.
You need need to shrink the noose, and add a few random doo-dads around it- a stick of butter, folding chair, stapler, and perhaps a ham sandwich.
Then I am sure they will give your design some serious consideration.
Serious ansewer: I sorta like the design you posted, I was thinking of somehow playing off of the numerous lakes and therefore potential for sportmanship, but that may not translate well into a coin design. I like Bullwinkle, and he did come from Frostbite Falls, Minnesota, wheres Rocky?
I saw in this week's CW that the Texas quarter design was final. Another deadly dull state outline.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
I don't care where the moose came from....it's a good simple design. Especially because it doesn't go for the obvious "land of 10,ooo lakes" that everyone already knows. And, it does not use a state outline!
I feel many state quarters are uninteresting because they merely rehash already well-known mottos/motifs/cliches. I wish the designs all went with some more obscure aspect of each state, that'd be new or interesting for the rest of the country to learn.
Gee whizz....minuteman on MA quarter...who the heck doesn't know about him already, or the Old Man of the Mtn for NH? Give me arcane obscure things instead, that maybe would make me want to know more or visit!
Great effort at doing something elegant and simple.
By the way, here's some other designs from www.quarterdesigns.com No doubt they'll pick the last one because it looks most like the dryer lint screen after your to-do list has gone through the wash.
Too bad a Walleye isn't more photogenic...
I can't believe this one hasn't been submitted already... the true MN state bird:
Here's one evocative of the Minnesotan no-nonsense attitude and work ethic:
