So I get a call today.....
....From some guy at Last Call Coins in New York (????). He starts by telling me of some hoard of old coins found recently which included lots of Franklin Half rolls. Supposedly in CW and Coinage. (Not to say that is not true, but I never read about that.) Of course all the coins are 64/65 quality and all FBL! Says that Franklin's set the all time record for the all time greatest price increase in all time history (????). In fact so great that 65 Franklins sell for $185 a coin! Raw!! Did he have an ANA number?. Not with him at the time. How about PNG? Thats at home also. So anyway, I can buy these coins by the roll for $17.50 a pop. And they will not all be commons. So I start to ask him why not slab the better dates, make a bigger fortune. Why not go to Baltimore and sell them OTC. Well, thats when he hung up on me. But not after begging me for 1% of my time and 100% of my money.
I have been around too long and read too much to be this stupid. But in two decades of this hobby that is my first ever cold call! Pretty cool to hear how these a**holes work. What upsets me more is how he even got my phone number at work.

Did any dealer ever have your work number? Could an employee have quit and taken information from the client list with him?
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
