Just got a real nice 1873 ms65 open 3 variety..this a real tough coin I added it to my set..last year pcgs mad this variety a set requirement and i found out how tough it was to find only 5 exist i believe in at the 65 level and none better than that..The mint state set proved quite a challenge after doing the proofs..I aam real proud of my 3 cent sets both proof and mint state..

    I am real proud of my 3 cent sets both proof and mint state..

    Fully justified, Bruce! Congrats on finding that tough 1875 (which ain't so easy in a good grade for proofs, either!)

    Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...

    It is lucky for collectors that the coronet 3 cent design is still relatively "cool" and not a design "on fire" like some other series out there. Where it has been a great benefit for me personally is in picking up a great many coronet design pattern nickels at relatively soft prices. For example, I have been able to complete the set of J-1050 (pop 1/0), 1051 (pop 3/3), 1052 (pop 2/1), 1053 (pop 4/0), 1054 (pop 1/0 and RD) and 1055 (pop 1/0) (all metals of copper, nickel and aluminum of the Liberty Head with coronet design) with little trouble and "relatively" inexpensively. And, of course, three cent nickel patterns as well have been relatively "cheap" for a long time IMHO. I, assume, Bruce, you are also sprinkling your collection these days with some pattern three centers for a little "spice"?

    I find it amazing that there are only 5 coins slabbed by PCGS that would improve your set. That is for all the years put together. Wow!
