Interesting recent purchase. Just looking for comments.

Either MS63 or AU58. There is some light flatness above the ear and cheek which could be either a softer strike or slight wear, I cannot make that determination from a scan.

Please take this opinion with however many grains of salt your blood pressure will allow

No problem. I'm just fascinated by the rims and the apparent lint mark (Obverse lower left).

I agree with the 58/62-63 guess. I think it's UNC, personally.

For some reason, I think that is an actual piece of lint on the slab or on the coin. I just got a couple slabs that had some crud slabbed with the coin, so it does happen

Lint marks are also common on proofs and rare on business strikes.

I would look at that coin more closely. From the images, I would agree with looking for Matte Proof diagnostics.

I have a few that have that little bit of "wear" above the ear. I call them AU 55 to 58. Although at least one came out of an unc roll.

Looks like a 65 to me!!

64RB maybe 65RB. I would like to see the rim ding better before the final grade.

Wolf359 · November 11, 2003 2:09AM

The "rim ding" is the holder

I received this coin today in the mail. Don Merz was kind enough to give me the die diagnostics for a 1910 Matte Proof.

Obverse #2 Die polish to the leftof and through WE.
Die gouge to the left of WE.
Die gouge above the N of IN and to the left of the G of GOD.

Rev
Raised lines from lower part of the M in UNUM.
Die scratch from lower inside center of M in UNUM <--- (actually visible in the picture above)

The coin appears to be a 100% match and will be submitted to PCGS for verification.
