I gotta ask, anyone else "bought" the Mint's State Card/Portfolio sets?
*notice, I didn't say "collect"*....
Anyone else bought the US Mint's "Greetings from America USPS/US Mint Series"????
I have to don my dunce cap, possibly, on this one. I did. I bought them for my son to have when he is old enough.
Now, I am anal enough to keep buying them as they come out so I can get the whole set (I can be a completist at times
).
From a numistmatic standpoint, I don't see a lot of value in them
Can someone tell me of some? Maybe they are early strikes? Maybe they will become collectible (know any examples that are similar?)
They are $29.95 and $27.95 each year.
I looked at the packaging and am worried that the plastic used will be bad for the coins
I don't want to open them (would prefer to leave them unopened) but I don't want them to be ruined.
So, opinions are welcome and so are suggestions......right now, I will likely continue to sink ~$60 a year into completing them as they come out.
According to the latest NN, the sales figures are:
1999 State card set: 6835
1999 Portfolio: 12626
2000 State card set: 5419
2000 Portfolio: 9957
2001 State card set 4816
2001 Portfolio: 8529
2002 State card set: 5878
2002 Portfolio 12360
2003 State card set: 1619
2003 Portfolio: 2336
So, people seem to not be buying 1-1 on them. People aren't even keeping the sales figures the same (for complete sets).
I must admit to be perplexed on this and thinking I should never have bought the first set

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Sorry.
If no one else on the forum has bought these, then I feel like an even bigger dumb@$$ than normal

They come shrink wrapped together and I looked at the outside ones and didn't bother opening it up. I just threw it in the box with all of the other "Why did I buy that?" stuff.
Now if the mint would just send me my Salmon silver medal I ordered in August I'd be happy
