Boy, that is mighty tempting....if dated 1856 or 1858, I would be doing the BIN right now! Thanks for pointing that one out - great write-up.

And to think it is not even in an NGC or PCGS holder! Very educational. Thanks for the link. Assume that one is priced not to sell and I can understand why. Curious what it would bring in a true auction with the bidding starting at one dollar and no reserve.

No one should put a coin like that on eBay with a dollar start and no reserve. They would be dumb to do so. A coin like that belongs in a real auction venue with serious bidders, not last second snipers that want a good deal.

I actually looked at this one before coming to the boards this morning. It's simply amazing, as ar most of the things I've seen from Byers.

Rampage - and your point? Ebay is not a real auction venue???

What is the difference between submitting a coin to Bowers & Merena, Heritage, or Stacks with an unrealistically high reserve and listing one's coin on ebay with a minimum bid that is unrealistically high? In both cases the seller is merely saying, if you like or want this coin enough to pay more than what it is worth to me as a seller, then it is yours.
