Sniping

I have read all the stories about sniping in connection with ebay auctions. I know this sounds stupid but I assume the same tactics work at Heritage with respect to their internet auctions?

Any thoughts to assist the technically challenged would be appreciatedimage

It may, but I would think not. The people bidding on the coins there probably put in there highest bids right off the bat. And if the coin does not go high enough, the coin is then listed for sale at their price. (And, I am pretty sure this will not work on their live acutions what-so-ever.)

Sniping should work for their internet only auctions but not for their live auctions that also have internet bidding.

In my experience on eBay, sniping is a waste of time. Coins are a large, well developed market. Coins, if properly described, tend to sell for exactly what they are worth. I suggest you calculate your top bid, place it, and then just sit back and see if you win. If you are an experienced eBay bidder and know your field you can often predict closing prices very well.

Sniping works providing no one else snipes you. Russ PMs me his snipes like a cat bringing a dead bird home to show what he has done! Really to show me what I have missed! But if an auction is in the wrong area, or just gets overlooked a snipe works great. Just PM Russ and ask him.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I think Heritage has eliminated sniping in their on-line auctions. I don't bid in their sales on-line very often, but I think if you are the high bidder or the under bidder you can continue to bid after the official closing.
