Opinions needed on Ike Error

Does anyone know what kind of doubling this would be? And is it anything worth keeping.

BTW. It's not mine and I don't know the year. Yet.

Thanks

The picture is really small - what year/mint is it? - From the picture I would say machine doubling, in which case it wouldn't be worth any premium - can you make the pic any bigger?

That's all I have to work with. I don't know the Year/Mint Mark either. I am working on getting more info though.

I think there should be rats on coins.(staying topical) They should have their place in history.

I,ve seen this type of doubling on an Ike posted here before.

Not sure what was learned from posters as far as a newly discovered doubled-die Ike.

I think it was determined to be some kind of abrasion die doubling ?

And can you explain what that would be?

some part of the design can get distorted from improperly aligned blank in the coining chamber.

that could start the process of damaging the dies that strike the coin.

its a form of machine or mechanical doubling

    Looks like worn die/abrasion doubling.

Whatever it is, why not keep it? It's kind of cool, and it appears to be an Ike in good shape!

As I understand it, overpolishing of the die face can cause 'shadows' of design features to appear. I'm not entirely certain of the exact reasons why it does, but there are countless examples in all series - the date of a typical 1943 steel cent is one perfect example. Typically abraded die errors have no collector value beyond a normal coin.

it looks like hub doubling to me. prices on error are crazy but I don't think it a big buck error.

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

All the known true doubled-die Ikes are far less dramatic than that, generally requiring magnification to see.

So if you want something that looks more dramatic like in the photo, you'll have to go some sort of machine doubling.
