Discretion & Shipping coins

I've recently started buying coins off of eBay, and I have been very satisfied with the result. There's one thing that kind of irked me. Maybe irked is too strong of a word. Let's say, just shy of "irked."

All the packages I have received have been discreetly marked. If it's an individual, then the return address has only the person's name. If it's a larger operation, like "Jones Coin Company, Inc.," then they usually say just "Jones," or "Jones, Inc."

I received one last week with a return address of "Jones Coin Company." Now the postal people in my area know that these packages I'm getting all of a sudden are coins. Maybe it's narcissistic of me to think anyone but me even cares about what mail I'm receiving, or what my personal interests are, but I know there are unscrupulous people out there and I'm just trying to be somewhat security-conscious.

Jones Coin Company does a lot of business, and has perfect feedback, and I as well am very happy with the coins I received. But can I be the only one out there with this concern? I plan to buy from them in the future. Should I be concerned? What would you do?

"Jones Coin Company" is, by the way, a fictional name I came up with.

    I would contact them, explain that you are a happy customer, but you do not want anything saying "coins" on the packages you receive from them. Ask them how they would ensure that doesn't happen.

    New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    Most companies don't use coins in their return address. For example we just use J&J in our return address. Sounds like a good suggestion to drop them a line.

    I prefer them not to say "coins" or "coin company" on the package......just a security thing w/ me.

    Very rarely do I get one that says coin on the envelope...

    I know Michael Dixon sends packages from Michael Dixon RC, so hey, maybe that small bubble mailer is an RC car :fuuny;

    My mailman knows the magazines I get... so there's nothing I'm really hiding...

    I've been buying off Ebay for a few years and it has only happened to me once, but I felt exactly as you do. I would also let them know, as it may save them, as well as other buyers, heartache in the future.
    "What are you putting that tape on your nose for?"
    "Exactly."

    Most companies, or private individuals, are more than happy to send out a plain package with a mailing address on it upon request. I think people know what a strange world it can be!
