My first submission results (Anacs)

Well I finally sent some coins in to be graded. This was a first for me.
(I'm still waiting for my results for the 4 freebies from PCGS.)
I picked ANACs to start with because it wasn't to expensive. The coins I sent in were collected when I was a kid except for a few. I guess some folks might say "what a waste" but to me it was something I just wanted to do. To actually see what I spent my allowance on when I was alot younger, to see what I bought back then and graded now brought back some memories of how it was a big deal to run home and show the folks a 100 year old penny I bought and see my dad shake his head like I was "nuts". I use to ride my bike to "Doc's Coin Shop" in downtown Park Ridge,IL. I remember the guy telling us kids to by the better coins. We just wanted fillers back then. The cheaper the better. Well, all those pennies that were put in the 2x2's back then have been ruined from the PVC. Doesn't matter they were all low graded coins anyway. But they were mine and will always be.

Here are the grades from the coins I bought back then, how much they cost eludes me but it wasn't much.

1878 Indian G4
1858 Flying Eagle SM F12
1910 s Linc EF40
1931 s Linc Net AU 50 Sracthed-cleaned
1932 Washington Net EF 45 Scratched
1932 s Washington Net VG 8 Polished
1935 d Washington Net VF 30 Scratched-cleaned

<<As you can see there's a lot to be learned from a kid buying coins with no one helping him out>>

These were collected in my teens when driving to a coin shop was an excuse to "just drive".

1943 Washington MS61 Dbl Die Obv Die 1
1889 Morgan MS65 (great looking crescent rev tone)
1972 D Ike MS66 (almost sure I bought this but I might have recieved it from someplace else back then)

These 4 are from recent

1864 2c lg motto Lamination Net AG3 Damaged-scratched(I had a thread earlier about "2 cent junk or what" on this coin. I still think its neat)(Ebay $11)
1883 5c No cents MS64
1878 CC Morgan AU55 Rotated Dies(Ebay BIN for $99)
1879 S MS64 (toned obv crescent)
1884 S Morgan EF 45

There's alot more I could have sent in but these will do. What we all learn from days gone by...
Thanks for looking!!!!!!
Tom
(I might try to cross the Ike if it's worth it)

  • Cool story, Trooper. Thanks for sharing. I agree with your point about your reasoning for having your coins slabbed/graded. It's what matters to you that's important.

  • Save your money on the IKE and get some books on coins to read. Lots of goos books out there for the novice and the expert.

Don't get involved in the crossover game. All the major services are very conservative right now so your chances of success are not good.

A slab labelled genuine from NTC is pretty funny. They have no authenticity guarantee.
