Mythbusters, Coins, and Cola

Tonight on the Discovery channel "Mythbusters" they tackled the myth of whether cola would clean coins. In this case, a lincoln penny. They took two coins, one was dropped in phosphoric acid, the other in cola, and left overnight unaggitated. The phosphoric acid didn't clean the first coin very well at all. However, the cola cleaned the lincoln penny fairly well. In fact, you can see where an air-bubble rested against the penny and that part wasn't cleaned. I couldnt' get a very good look at the coin, but it had some luster. I thought it was very interesting.

    That's exactly why I don't like pop!

(people from the Midwest say pop, not soda)

  • You beat me to this thread. I actually saw this episode yesterday and was going to post about it. The cola coin was bright, bright, shiny red. Except of course, where the air bubble was. Maybe somebody should find Shinycoinboy and let him know. He may want to use cola from now on.
