Can anyone see the die doubling on the obverse of this Seated Quarter?

1869 Quarter

Look hard now.

Sorry, no, I do not see any die doubling on it. Nice coin though.

  • I know little or nothing about double dies but I would guess its on the right edge of the shield.

  • Left edge of shield
  • On the obverse....right edge of the shield?

On the reverse....left edge of the shield and just above the banner ribbon....just above "God"....just above "Trust"?

  • You won't see any die doubling because this isn't a coin struck from a doubled die.
    Know what that means?
It means it's not a Proof as the Proof was struck from a doubled die.
PCI has labled a Prooflike business strike as a Proof. In doing so, it has cheated the submitter out of a great deal of money as the Business Strike in the sort of condition is at least a high rarity 6 coin whereas the Proof is common.

Guess that splains why I couldn't find the doubling.

It means it's not a Proof as the Proof was struck from a doubled die.

Where does the doubling occur on the proof? Were only one set of dies used for the minting of the proofs?

    We ARE watching you.

  • Yes only the one set of dies for the Proof, and one set of dies for the Business strike.
The doubling on the Proof is visible on the right side of the verticle stripes as an extra stripe, under the horizontal stripes as an extra stripe and where the ribbon ends on the right at the Y in LIBERTY the ribbon is doubled.
Even if this graded only AU as Lazeroo believes it may be, it still sold real cheap. Look at the PCGS price guide.
Oh, if it were a Proof, the price would have been a little high.
