very nice. The flans on that series were often a bit tight for the design. I have a variant that has the same problem on the obverse.

Compare the Grey Friars Gate token with similarly dated US coins in terms of style, design and cost. Little wonder that I love Conder tokens!

Bill, they won't stay "cheap" for long once more people see and appreciate them. I suppose they are still a very dark part of the Dark Side in that they require their own reference material, and specialized knowledge. They do offer a more artistic, varied, and beautiful alternative to regal copper issues.

Some of the nicest and most appealing creamy colorations I have ever seen on coppers have been found on the Conder Tokens.

Don, can you hold off on collecting them for just a few more months???

Cosmic - The main reason for their (relatively) low price is the small collector base and the number of Conder tokens available. The common issues were minted in tons and are fairly common in lower and mid grades. These tokens were used in everyday trade. At the other end of the scale are designs that were minted in very small numbers for collectors and as vanity issues. These issues tend to show the highest level of the diesinkers skills. The number of collectors interested in them is fairly small and as many still exist in high states of preservation (since they were not meant for circulation) the price remains lower than coins from the same period.
