Possible purchase. So before I shell out the big bucks, I'm looking for opinions. It is already slabbed by ANACS. Thanks.

AU58 or ms63 or somewhere in between depending on luster.
Might be rub on the eagles breast and or the top of the hairline/cheek.
The picture is not very good to tell for sure.

I'd be pretty disapointed to pay MS money for a breast like that, and would be thrilled with the coin at AU55 money. Yes, I know it's a scarce date O mint and they have weak strikes, that's why my Morgans are Type coins. anyway, the coin looks like a pretty nice AU58 to me.

I like the pcgs better at least going by the pictures. No "hole" in the eagles breast.
Surfaces seem more smooth and uniform.

I guess I disagree with the others about the strike. This coin looks well struck for an O mint coin, especially at the ear. BUT I wonder about the mint mark. It looks week in picutre. If this is raw or in a slab other than PCGS or NGC take a very careful look at the mint mark under high magnification. I would worry about a better than usual strike but a week mint mark on an O mint coin that is scarce in MS.

As far as grade is concerned, this picture is too grainy to tell. There are obvious marks on the face that would limit the grade to no higher than 63 if it is MS. Could be AU but no way to tell from the photo.

I'm going to guess that the coin is in an anacs MS63 slab and is listed for $1795, with a Buy it Now somewhat higher. It's probably priced at a discount to a "real" MS63 coin but much higher than a 62.

  • It is hard to tell from the picture. She looks AU58 to me, since I can't see any original mint frost. I think the strike is above average. The poorly-struck mintmark is only a minor disadvantage. Overall, this is one of the finer examples of this date and mintmark.

BTW, I'll guess that ANACS graded her MS63, with a price of around $2000. I would say around $150 is a fair price.

Pics are too small to grade. If the turkey has its breast feathers then it's an MS coin; otherwise, it's an AU.

  • I would ask for several additional pictures and get more information before spending spending this much!

Also, I would insist on a money back guarantee!

there is quite a spread for MS60, 62, 63, 64 on this coin.

    Trends(2002 book) goes 350, 975, 2750, and 10,500 respectively.

number one point, if i were shopping for this date, I'd be looking for one in an old pcgs or NGC MS60 or 61 holder, the "value" grade before the big jumps. If I could afford a 63 or 64 holder, I'd try to be darned sure it was solid for the grade, for my own satisfaction as well as for resale value.

I think the pictured coin might be worth a thousand, but for more than that, I'd like an updated opinion of it's grade from PCGS.

Coin looks Au-58 or MS-62 to me.(would have to see in person) The strike is actually decent for an 86-o which tend to come weak and soft. Also, the luster on a majority of 86-o's is very minimal to begin with. These two reasons alone make the 86-O so tough and expensive in 65. As far as the O mintmark, it does look weak, but I guarantee its a genuine O, ANACS is as good as the other service's on Authentication's. It's there grading that tends to be more liberal.

I have to agree, I like the PCGS coin better, than the ANACS coin. I am not sure what grade is stated on the holder and what price?
But if price is on the upper end, I would hold out!

The PCGS pic IS a real good image and I think I can see why it is graded AU, but it is a "stunner" nonetheless.

I can't quite make out your image. but I too thought "I can hardly make out the mintmark." Strike on the coin looks pretty decent, for an "O" mint anyways, a 2nd reason to really scrutinize it. Otherwise, it looks a bit scratchy and I don't like the color, but it looks like it could be a 63, but I'm being generous with an image that I think is a bit inadequate for bigger bucks (for me anyway).

If I couldn't get an image that boosted my confidence in the grade, I would be more inclined to go for the PCGS 58 pictured.
