Where do you keep your coins?

Hello everyone

I have recieved my first PCGS graded coin a few weeks ago, and I have no idea where I have to keep it. It is to big to fit in my 2x2 regular albums. (I have dozens of pages, that is really no problem) Can I make any boxes or just cut the ulbum pages so they fit?

Another question, do you have your coins at home (just like me), or somewhere else (bank, etc.)?

Dennis

I bought an Eagle Album for slabs. That is a pretty nice way to store them. I just leave the album up on my bookshelf, as it looks like any other 3-ring binder.

I have various albums and boxes. Keep the nicer stuff in a fire safe. I have to look into the eagle slab holders.

I keep mine in a 100 year old wooden cigar box that used to hold "Willem II Sumatra Exquise" cigars.....kind of an experiment. Got 6 various silver coins in it to see what kind of toning they get. One is an MS Silver Eagle that another member had and didn't like the toning, so I swapped him 1 for 1. It's getting some real nice rim toning on it, blues and reds so far. image

For my real coins.........the few slabs I have left are in a PCGS blue box, and my raw coins are in 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 Saflips.

If you need a couple blue boxes, PM me your address and I'll send you a couple---------------freebies.

I have the coins that I like to look at a lot in Eagle albums, and the rest in PCGS blue boxes. Of course, I keep moving them around between the boxes and albums because I can't make up my mind what I want to look at a lot. image

I keep my expensive coins in the bank. The less expensive coins, which are very few, are in a safe at home.
  • I have my slabs displayed in an old pistol cabinet. I will be putting my more expensive coins in a safe deposit box next payday though.

All the really good stuff is in a deposit box in the bank vault, except for brief visits home.

You'll get other slabs. I used a check box when I had a handful, and a larger shipping box later.

Normally, I wouldn't say, but I know I can trust you people. Just please, please, please don't tell anyone! I buried my best coins - about $30 million worth - in a large strongbox twelve feet deep under DorkKarl's front lawn. No digging, please! image

In a mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnalls' porch.
Put em there at noon today.
Seriously I keep em in PCGS or NGC boxes in a safety deposit box.

  • In my pocket of course!!
  • I was told the best place to hide valuables is in your book shelf -- burglars tend to leave those alone because they have no interest in reading. It does make sense, though I'm not sure if this is a tested
theory. Perhaps some ex-burglars in the forum can shed some light on this?

You want the bank account and PIN # too??

Just kidding - I buried mine with Andy but in the back yard.

I keep mine under the snow on my branches, the more valuable stuff towards the top because there is less chance of the birds doing their business on them---------------BigE

In a metal bandaid brand container buried out in the woods next to a large rock with my name carved into it and the date 1964...........actually that's where I stored them when I was 10 years old! I didn't trust banks nor cat burglers. True story.
