Rainbow MORGAN & BUFFLO.....AT vs. REAL?

tsacchtsacch Posts: 2,929 ✭✭✭
ok, i love rainbow buffalos and so does my kid.......she is 11 and she actually came across this seller.... ryandavidcoins on the bay and is willing to put her hard earned $$$$$$$ up for these $0.05's........I am hesitant as they all look very similar and are ungraded. I know to buy the coin and not the slab, well, these aint got no slabs, so let me ask you experts.........return policy not stated and yet to be asked.....

opinions please?????

AT or real?
another
and another.....
and yet another.......

I believe all of those to be natural toning.

I believe they are all AT BUT the question is whether YOU like them. I kind of liked the 2nd one (I think that was the one).

There are several things you might want to ask:

    1) Return policy?
    2) HOW much it will cost you to return it?
    3) Get a picture of the reverse of these

All coins are worth something so it you LIKE the coin(s) then bid appropriately.

  • The toning looks nice but are they really UNC??? They look AU at best.

Good point and another reason to get a picture of the reverse. The reverse is the best place to see if it's AU or not.

judging by the obverse pics, or lack of close up detail, its hard to tell for me strike quality vs ciculation wear, especially in the high end AU grades.

I am still not conviced they are real......or fake for that matter..........

  • My gut tells me to pass on those - so I wouldn't go for them.

Here's an MS64 I just bought - note the differences in this one compared to those:

My very strong suspicion (I need to leave a little bit of wiggle room - about a 3% possibilityimage ) is, that they are NOT naturally toned and that they have been at least lightly circulated.

Actually, that is why you need to see the reverse. The weak strike areas are NOT the same as the high point of wear. Which is actually a big help when it comes to grading these.... image

Edit: The Morgan is AT and IHC has been cleaned.

    Avoid this guy...

    Jom,

I have low bids in on a couple coins and doubt i will win them.........but for learning sake, i am willing to win at the bid price I put in. I just got a rainbow peace that was so obviously AT, but had to do it just to have and show the kids and others that are always debating me.

    Thanks for the input.

They could be naturally toned, but they are not mint state.

Try putting some buffalos in a tin can out in the rain and you can get the same effect.

Something doesn't look quite right about those coins, but they could have been high grade circulated ones sitting in an album for awhile. See attached pics for my NGC 64 1926 buff...

Circulated, cleaned and natural album toned...I am certain.
