Wheres the brown in my RB IH?

How do the grading services determine brown? I have a blazing red 1890 ms64 indian head with lavender highlights on the tips of the feathers and some lavender in the fields where some chatter might have been...absolutely no brown....has the brown toned lavender or what...its a red blazer trust me....sorry no pics...thanks, mike

I guess that anything NOT red is considered brown.....it doesn't necessarily have to actually be brown, just not red.
I think.
Sorry - couldn't resist. There's a very fine line between RB and red. I haven't quite figured it out myself. It aslo has something to do with liability. Since PCGS guarantees the coins they holder, they will tend to error on the conservative side (RB instead of red). I have similar coins and just enjoy them for what they are - beautiful coins for a lot less money than their red counterparts.
Same occurs with brown coins with some red showing - they will often get called brown.
The "BN / Brown" designation is used for copper coins which are colors / shades other than "RD" or "RB". In other words, if a copper coin has turned blue, green, purple, dark tan, etc and doesn't display sufficient mint red or faded mint red, it will most likely receive the "BN" designation.
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
I understand now...by the way Seattleslammer...your the one that outbid me on that half...
Grrrrr...lol. Hope you enjoy it...looks like a beauty, and yes Ive also bought other coins from Greattoning and they are indeed great...thanks again everyone, especially that Mark guy.
I answered this question at a Long Beach show last year. I looked specifically for toned IH cents and saw that all the ones which were slabbed got the RB.
