Yes, someone else just posted the same email. Clearly English is not his first language. Of course I'd be overly suspicious and send no money, but I"d might have fun and ask him to send you a picture of the coin.

    A scam.

.uk means United Kingdom. English is their first lanuage. Simply not American English.

I wouldn't bite on something like this.

I got the same email this past Wednesday. The funny thing was that he was trying to tell me I lost the auction, but I, in fact, won it.

    Friggin' idiots.

Just because his email address is in the U.K., does not mean English is his first language. Just reading the email tells me the person does not speak English well.

Even a ten year old would have better grammar.

You miss the point. The lanuage is not the main issue; the scam is. The e-mail is from a different country. And the people in the UK use the language different than we do.

  • The UK has more foriegners than we do here in the USA. I agree that the writer's first language was not english. In either case, a UK email doesn't mean the writer is really in the UK.

That's a violation of eBay rules and possible cause for the emailer to be NARUed.

Morris - even though your spelling is off, for the most part your grammar was spot on. In wayneherndon's email his grammar was very bad but only a little bad spelling.

    A scam.

    Strictly a scam.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • My company emailed samples off this letter and other letters to all it's personnel so that we would not divulge any business info to these scammers. From the way the message is written it seems to match the Nigerian gangs that have been trying to solicit vital information from our company.

Another thing to watch for from these scammers: Many times if you have a phone system that requires you to dial 9 to get an outside line, you will get a call from someone pretending to be from the phone company or IT services requesting you transfer them to extention 90. What you have actually done is obtained an outside line (dialing 9), connecting to an operator (dialing 0) and transfering them to the operator. Once you hangup after the transfer, the caller can make operator assisted long distance calls on your company account. Again most of these calls go to Nigerian or the Middle East. Our company got raked over the coals because 2 employees were tricked into transfers and calls to Saudi Arabia were made shortly before 9/11. With all the investigations going on, it took months for us to clear our name.

    Great read...thanks for sharing.

I recently bid on a lot of 5 one ounce maple leafs on Ebay. They were selling for about $400.00 each right before gold dropped. Anyway I get an offer from someone in the UK offering to sell me ONE maple leaf for the fantastic basement bottom price of only $1200. That is for a bullion coin selling for about $400.00

I can't print my reply on this forum! LOL

    1) I would agree english is NOT that person's 1st language.
    2) He may not even be in the UK....even though the domain for the email is there
    3) I would be VERY wary of this (I wouldn't do it, personally)

There was an article last month in the local paper I believe. About an ebay scammer and he talked about what he does, and a little bit about how.
That letter you received had a lot of the same type of things in it.

A lot of times, these scammers set up in the US bu using other countries as a base for their emails, etc. They rely on the fact that people feel too stupid at being taken to the cleaners to report them.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
