    Not an amusing analogy.

Seems like a good analogy to me. Maybe for a more PC analogy liberty has gender identity problems and is finally getting out of the closet (I'm not sure that's more PC).

It is a tough crowd. Does the pic look like Hitler? Yes. Do I want to own a coin that looks like Hitler? Not particularly. The fact that it looks like hitler has little to do with the political/humanitarian implications, for me at least. Not everone can separate the image from the symbolism.

  • Looks more like Charlie Chaplin.

  • LOL...mg..To be quite honest with you, I wasn't looking at the moustache initially, I envisioned something much more hideous...Looking, of course, at the whole coin.

    Millennium-

    Give me a fricken break.

There were 250,000 US combat deaths in WW 2. If you include disease and accidents I think it was closer to 300,000. I don't think Hitlers face on a coin that is a symbol for our country is funny.

  • Look. That is no more stupid than what you are doing. They guy isn't boot steeping to Hitler..He was just making a reference we could ALL identify with. You need to lighten up, that is all I was trying to point out.
  • baccarudabaccaruda Posts: 2,588 ✭✭
How is a simple reference to Hitler so tasteless? It's not like he's trying to recruit people in helping him establish a new Arian race or something...

  • Here's a good one for millenium. It kinda makes a recovering drunk, such as myself, ponder...From the bible (proverbs 31: 6,7): "Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more." I thought GIN was included...Oh well!....image

  • << <i>I am the son of an alcoholic and I think it is in bad taste >>

I am also a son of a alcoholic. I became one myself and fixed the problem. I have been completely sober for over 6 years and can say that my father made a choice to become a alcoholic and I cannot change that. I have learned to move on and just accept my father and everyone else for what THEY ARE.

Referring to this thread I do not believe it in bad taste. If someone would have said it reminded them of Charlie Chaplan would you say something about him marrying a 13-14 year old (I am pretty sure he did this if I remember the movie correctly)?

wow, ya gotta be pretty evil if the mere mention of yer name is offensive.

OT: I wonder if there is anyone left with the last name Hitler, or have they all changed it?

even the name Adolf subjects one to scorn. Witness A. Coors

further ot: I always thought it would be fun to change your name to Lucifer Hitler

If you look hard enough, anything can be interpreted as offensive. Some things just require less looking. Yes Charlie did have a child bride. I think he was pretty old when he got married.

Yes, they all changed it, and to take it even further, Hitler had a nephew who had three sons. The three sons agreed years ago never to have children so that the bloodline would finally die with them.

    Final bloodline

  • There are issues that people sensitized so much others are afraid to mention them. Does that make them go away?

In Europe, many nations have banned the sale of Nazi historical items particularly on Yahoo/ebay auctions. The Germans practically want to pretend Hitler never existed.

If you sublimate or demonize something I feel it actually attracts a particular audience, am evil one. The burying of the facts and keeping a closed mind so nothing is discussed prolongs its life and even adds an air of mystery.

If we expose the Nazi and Hitler for the evil that they did and the historical facts behind it I feel people will be better educated and the subject will lose its "taboo". The subject is not evil the people were.

I think it may just be something lost on the next generation. My grandmother (born in Poland) also didn't find even the slightest mention of Hitler appropriate at any time, for any reason. A lot of people react violently to the name. Naturally something like that is going to be much more powerful to someone who's lived through it.

I'm not inferring anything about you, Jay!

Well, if you're driving a Ford, GM, or Chrysler you are. I think Honda is the most American car now. Every part is manufactured and assembled in the U.S.

I find your comments to be in very poor taste.

  • What would dad say about you posting on these boards?... Hmmh, interesting! I find the probable cause to be that he's merely sublimating childhood anger due to the fact that I (Dr. Phil), was too busy JO'ing looking at my classroom instructor amidst her, or in this case, possibly his, lectures; therefore, causal to my not getting a degree in counseling therapy and having to stoop as low as placing myself on national television to make more of a JO out of myself...Son I'm sorry....imageimage

  • It’s obvious that the coin symbolizes the entire geo-political struggle of the 20th Century as envisioned by the Nazi’s. The greens and yellows represent the dichotomy of the evil of alcoholism against the pure love of Dr. Phil, while the blue tones are clearly indicative of the invasion of Poland in 1939. The two orange spots on the coin represent the struggle between Ford and GM as lone icons against the post WWII Japanese domination of the American auto market. It’s all so clear.

The black spot under the nose? Well, that just looks like a mustache.

    Nope.

Edit: Actually not really sure. But, if some were it ain't very many. More likely the only overseas content is some of the electronics which would be China or Taiwan.
