Simply a fascinating piece of Americana

This - a rare NJ copper variety being featured in the Stack's Ford sale on October 14 - is my new favorite coin:

Heres a little bit of the description from Stack's:
"1788 M.79-ee. Maris' Frightened Head. Uncertain mint. Rarity-8. 159.3 gns. About Uncirculated. The finest of the three known, the second best (a VF) being permanently impounded in the New Jersey Historical Society's collection.
The piece has a remarkably naive and innocent feel to it and it looks almost as much like a piece of early American folk art as it does a great numismatic rarity."
Even if you aren't a NJ copper specialist or even a colonial collector, I'd recommend getting your hands on a copy of the catalog or perusing the Stack's website just to see some of these pieces and enjoy cataloger Michael Hodder's efforts.
While Stack's often seems to get a bad rap in here (or at least seems misunderstood by many), I think their contribution to numismatics is undeniable and priceless.

What do you think would be Ford's reaction if someone purchased this coin and then had it slabbed???

I think we can safely say he'd hate the idea.
