Was my dealer right?

On this Franklin? I was looking through some 62 proof sets for a cameo nickel for the granddaughters. I told him that the Franklin was cameo. He said it wasn't. So, I bought it and opened it. Who was right????.............Ken

No cameo there. While it has a faint contrast, no cigar.

Ken: Isn't it always pleasant when you (as buyer) feel a that the coin is in BETTER condition and therefore UNDERvalued than the seller does?

That's the fun part of collecting -- different opinions.

  • Newbie here!! What makes it not a cameo?

I can think of a dozen reasons not to have high capacity magazines, but it's the reasons I haven't thought about that I need them.

The depth of frosting on the devices determines if a proof coin

is a Cameo or a Deep Cameo.

  • For AmericanSilverEagleCoins, here is an example of a Dcam Kennedy I got this week. Can you see the heavily frosted devices and mirrored fields?...Ken

  • Ken,

I really like that coin! Quite nice. No CAM, though - it's borderline because the look of the devices, but I don't think it would make CAM.

    I like it!

    Ken,

I would say that the obverse is a CAM, but the reverse doesnt have enough frost in my opinion...

  • You guys are right. Both about the coin AND my dealer. Anytime you go through Abbottstown, PA on a weekend, stop by the Abbottstown Coin shop. Vincent Aumen is one of the best....Ken
  • Thanks. That's what I thought. What is the technique or reason that some are cameo and some are not? Are cameo's worth more because of the contrast effect? To me the non-cameo looks almost transparent, or lack of definition in the details. Don't get me wrong. The Frankie still looks to be a beauty. I think if one looks carefully at the mirrors on the Frankie you can see a shirt collar from the photographer.
