Will the NCS age have an impact on copper-nickel prices?

Since I pay for it I decided to check in on the PCGS IH pops and compared it to a report I have from Oct 2001. The pops in the 6 CN dates have really taken off in the last 2 years compared to the other 46 years of bronze coins. (Edited the CN MS67 stats, which I misread).

The first thing that comes to mind is how much more effective conservation is on CN compared to bronze. Do you think NCS is the prime reason?

A fascinating conclusion. Although there is no final data to back this, one thing is certain, NCS popularity with IH is certainly increased exponentially, so it is a rational conclusion.

I think your conclusion is dead on. There's no other reasonable explanation for over half of the 67s showing up in the last two years.

Oh, how I wish the services would downgrade worked-on coins instead of rewarding them.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

i think so copper nickel indian heads do very well with proper conservation and for me there is nothing wrong with that

******** BUT WITH THE FOLLOWING CAVIET*************

the coins have to be special exceptional to begin with and be totally non spotted or flecked and also be even in appearance with no striations or the usual streaks and also be basically mark free in other words a coin that is in a 66 holder that is basically a 67 but just has a light original to medium original skin that lays on top of the coin that can be dipped off successfully and then properly neutralized

for me this would be rare for many of the coins i bet some of these ms 67 indians are great but i bet lots are not good at all i guess it depends on the coin

for me the coin would first have to be a really special coin to being with on the edge of 67 with just a light tone on the surface and the coin is totally mark free strongly struck and spot and problem free and also witrh absolutely no striations

of course the ms coin that has these qualities that is still in a ms66 holder and is totally original but still looks like an ms67 with totally original surfaces and an ever so light tone well this coin is even better and rarer than the conserved ms 67 coins

but again would need to see some in person

again i suspect many are not really ms 67 even if in the ms67 holders it alldepands on the look

some to a few are okie the rest i bet are well how should i say this>? well leave much to be desired
jusyt make sure you buy the coin and notthe holder and only buy the no brainer extra special ms 67 conserved coins that have the right look to them and of course those totally original yet look like they were just struck ms66 coins that are ever so close to ms67 if not better than the average conserved ms67

interesting paul that you say there are 44 copper nickel ms 67 coins pcgs

i have a pop book from april 2003 and there are 22 so therefore the pop has basically doubled since april 2003 even more significant wow

for me i wonder if there are any 1863 ms 67 xoins? as in my opinion the rarest cn cent in superb gem is ironically the 1863 that would be a monster rare coin in ms67 i know a person that has a monster ms 66 older holder pcgs coin that to me is an undergradeed ms 66 and really a 67 with a great original skin that is almost as struck as per technical surface quality and also in terms of the original skin this coin i bet is better than any or the conserved ms 67 coins in terms of overall look but many have not seen as such as they just do not esixt almost as struck in temrs of color!

the proofs are even rarer in 67 and just have to be monstrer special coins with super light skins to be properly conserved and then a true proof 67 these coins juast because of their mirrors even with the coin conserved looking like it was struck yesterday usually then this exposes many problems with the coins on the surfavces of the proof mirrors that preclused a higher grade

so i am not as much worried about the proofs as in the ms coins as you suggest in your scenerio but i guess only time will tell

it would take a monster almost perfect special proof coin with a super light skin and perfect surfaces like it wAS STRUCK yesterday to look like a just yesterday original struck coin that would againneed to be a monster special coin with the right surfaces to be a great canadate for a conservation so to speak but it wouild be a greayt xcoin then it would look as sturck such a coin would be basically a one of a kind coin!!!

i think so! man would be great to look at I WONDER IF ONE EXISTS LOL WELL PAUL SHYLOCK YOU ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT LOL

but the problem is with many other that are conserved well this hurts many not all but most all as then the problems appear more and if they are softened by consewrvation they atre still there but now like ghost images where you can still see the problems brought out evenmoreso by the conservation and then lessoned by all the goops and chemicals and even though lessened can still be seen and for me this makes the coin well at least the same as before the conservation started and maybe even worse! but i guess only time will tell LOL i have seen lots of the conservation efforts and for me 85% is well just not good there is a small percentage of coins that really tuenout great even better but this is more the exception rather than the rule and the coin has to be really SPECIAL AND BASICALLY JUST NEEDS light dip to bring it to its fullest then for me with regards to proofs this is okie but again this is more the excpetional coin

hey thanks for a monster great post please keep them coming and make sure you pm me if you ever posyt anything else as i just came apon this thread by accident

THIS IS THE THREAD OF THE MONTH PAUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    thanks

    keepup the good work

    Paul:

When I checked today, there are 22 total PCGS MS67 CN cents. Are you combining NGC and PCGS?? There are still only 2 FE's.

It's harder to evaluate the cameos since that is a new designation with onset about the same time as NCS. I suspect these are getting more common because of NCS. I've noticed MANY more cameo CN proofs than I ever saw 6-8 years ago, and they all look the same. It's getting harder to find original looking CN proof coins, similar to what's been going on for years with silver (toned vs blast white).

    hey Paul

why would the exploding prices of the last few years not cause some great coins to come out of the closet and be certified just like in all the other series?? unless you know that some of the "new" coins are upgrades, you might be jumping to conclusions. trusting your powers of observation on these, which is spooky, have you seen any that you recognize?

  • ya, the pop reports are so ambiguos the info is almost meaningless. crackouts arent always accounted for
which is the problem mostly. If a coin upgrades or downgrades it SHOULD be reflected in the PR, dont ya think?
