What to do with Proof Sets

Hi Everyone. I have numerous old proof sets 1957 to 1964 and I was thinking about
cutting them up and sending in the halves, quarters & dimes for slabs/grading. Is
this a good idea? There are no "hot" DCAMS that I can see and I feel kind of funny
about destroying the set. So, is this a good idea or a bad idea?? Thanks for the help.

Unless the individual coins are exceptionally nice you are probably wasting your money by sending them in to be slabbed. If they have any "milk" spots, carbon spots/specks/flecks, hairlines or if they don't have good mirrors don't bother. That's my opinion. I think far too many marginal coins are being submitted for grading these days.

What he said. No point in swapping US Mint plastic for PCGS plastic, unless there are some standout pieces that'll be worth the expense.

  • Thanks guys, I'll tell you I just felt a little sppoky about destroying the sets even though a good
Frankin is worth more than I paid for the entire set. Nothing really stood out as being exceptional.
As for wasting my money; Lord you should see some of the Morgans I had graded & holdered!!
