John Highfill and Iraj (Roger) Sayah. who are they?

I believe John was/is connected to the Silver Dollar Roundtable or something like that? What is the SDR and is there a Silver dollar Show? Is it only for Silver Dollars?

Where are John and Iraj now?

  • Yes, Highfill was one of the early members of the Silver Dollar Roundtable. I was just approved as a member yesterday....not sure what it's all about other than a bunch of coin dealers getting together for meals and BS'ing.

Iraj Sayah came on the scene late in the 1980's and made a big splash by investing in lots of big dollar coins....gold mostly....if I remember correctly. I think the market turned on him and he lost a bundle and then disappeared. I haven't seen him for a LONG time.

  • I worked with John Highfill back in the early seventies. In the music business. Last I heard he worked for Heritage. This was probably 2-3 years ago. Haven't heard of anything since. Would like to get in touch with him. He was a good friend. Steve
  • John's wife Marlene is still in the coin business (sort of) as she helps Ron Gilio with the LB and Santa Clara shows.

I saw her during this past convention.

John Highfill was one of the founding members of The Silver Dollar Roundtable, carried Membership, and Life Membership #1.
The Silver Dollar Roundtable was founded in 1981, and consisted of dealers who's primary interest was Silver Dollars.
The old Silver Dollar Convention took place in Houston, and then in St Louis. A New Silver Dollar Show came into being last year in St Louis, but as far as I know has no connection with the Silver Dollar Roundtable.

As has been mentioned Highfill took a very big hit when the market collapsed in the late 80's early 90's. I believe he went to work for Heritage to help work off some debts.

route66, If you know Roger Geary he can more than likely give you information on how to contact Highfill.

If It doesn't have great eye appeal, I don't want it.

  • I met John at FUN in 1992 when he signed his huge and pretty cool silver dollar book for me. He seemed like a very nice guy and has certainly been an inspiration to many.

I've wanted to join the Round Table as well. I think it would be a pretty neat club to be a member of. I think Andy Kimmel is a member also. Are you a member Art?

Richard, No I am not a member. I don't know how it is now, but initially you had to be a Full time Dealer with a significant business in Silver Dollars to obtain a Regular Membership. They had an Associate Membership for Full Time, and Part Time Dealers plus anyone who had an interest in Silver Dollars.

Andy is a member. He told me he joined a few years ago.

  • Thanks Art,

I guess you could say I was full time, but not necessairly significant, at least in volume. image
