Would some of the more knowledgeable

Post the rarer dates & denominations of coins, for the less knowlegeable amoung us? It would be like having crib notes for rare coins. I think it would be extreemly helpful. You don't have to write a book, just the ones off the top of your head. I intend on printing it out and keeping it with me. I have decided to spend my time educating myself, so when I'm in a position to buy coins again, hopefully I'll know what I'm doing. I don't have many books and trips to the Library can only render small amounts of information at a time. Having an ongoing list right here on the board would be so much easier and would benifit so many of us. I believe there is more to be learned from you guys and gals, than from any book! Anyone willing to do this or am I asking too much?

  • Each series has its tough dates. Some are tough in higher grades. To really know the relative toughness of each date does take a book.

For proof Jefferson nickels any date 1959 and earlier is very scarce with deep cameo contrast.
  • I did not know that. Thank you for getting us off to a good start.

Get a Redbook or Blackbook and page down thru the listings. Those coins which appear to be expensive even in the lower grades are the ones that you should take an interest in.
