I not trying to be a smart a$$ but I would really like to know why it cost $1.00 to ship p/d state quarters and it cost $5.00 to ship a SLQ or Barber?

The seller may also be charging other things in the shipping and handling fees like gas to go to the USPS, etc.
I negged a seller once who did not list the S/H fees in the auction. The auction ended at $2.25 and then he charged me $5.75 for shipping. The package came with an $0.86 postage on it. I was oputraged.
I first emailed the seller and he started all this stuff about: gas to go to the USPS, the cost of ink to make out the mailing label, the cost of the envelope, the cost of tape, the cost of the label, the cost of his time (which he said was not cheap), and so much more.
After that email, I negged him and gladly took the neg he gave me in return.
some are rather expensive and some are rather cheap
I wouldn't want to buy a coin with shipping at a buck or lower
if it gets more than $5, than insurance better be included and a item worth over a couple hundred

Which is why $2-3 shipping is more than adequate...

My eBay
Bubble wrap, bubble envelopes and insurance all cost money.
#1. I charged the buyer $3.85, (Priority Mail + Delivery Confirmation) the actual shipping charge was $4.30,
#2. I charged the buyer $3.85, (Priority Mail + Delivery Confirmation) the actual shipping charge was $5.85,
#3. I charged the buyer $5.15, (Priority Mail + Delivery Confirmation + Insurance), the actual charge was $6.50,
#4. I charged the buyer $5.15, (Priority Mail + Delivery Confirmation + Insurance), the actual charge was $6.50.
On all of my Ebay Auctions I charge $3.85 for Priority Mail (Box) with Delivery Confirmation. The cheapest cost for this service is actually $4.30, I eat the Extra cost.
If the buyer wants Insurance I charge $1.30 extra (optional if the buyer requests it), but I usually insure the package for the minimum $51.00 value which costs $2.20, again, I eat the 90-cent extra cost.
If the Item is a single coin it goes into a bubble envelope and then the bubble envelope goes into the Priority Mail box for shipping. I do not add-on any charges for any supplies and/or any other incidentals to getting the Item(s) to the buyer. I have never had any problems with this system.

Seems to me lots of sellers use Prio Mail because they want to use the free boxes supplied by USPS. It's not free, it's eaten up by wasting about $3.00 in unncecessary postage. Perhaps they don't realize that many of us factor shipping costs into the bid, and they are ultimately paying for the postage themselves.
I have actually emailed a few sellers that did state their shipping, as asked if they would be willing to work with me on that. For example, to ship one raw coin, worth only $20, someone had $7.50 for s/h. I told him I was intersted, but asked him what it would really cost to ship. He lowered the s/h to $4 for me, so I bought it. It came in a bubble padded envolope with postage of $0.90 still.

beforehand. It does irritate me to see someone charge $10 to ship one slab, but if it's
worth $100 and I can win it for $20, I'll still pay the $10 shipping...
"Exactly."
