third party authentication - way back then

I remember reading about a gentleman that used to stamp his initials (E.B ?) into coins that he believed to be authentic and am wondering if this 1865 two cent piece is from that erra. I thought I had read about this here and in a book but cannot find the references now. I scanned this coin and tried to improve the brightness so I hope you can see it. Any help appreciated...

So what if it ain't the famous E.B.? It's still pretty neat!
According to this genealogical page, the New York silversmith Ephraim Brasher (of coin fame) was born in 1744, but nobody seems to know when he died (?)
The page has pictures of some of his hallmarks used on silver. Note that his hallmarks, like many (or most) silver marks, are RMDC, to borrow a term used in button collecting; that is, a "raised mark in depressed channel". And both initials are on one punch.
