    Barberlover,

If he snipes you again, just trick him into buying from doops....that appears to stop some people image
(referring to general doops type customer service for his bidders that appears in other threads)

Yes....I hate getting sniped too.....others love sniping programs....i have only sniped manually and sometimes lost out....worst thing about getting sniped is when it does sell for just 1 bid increment over what you bid......I feel like it would have sold lower if I hadn't bid...many sellers "owe" me for helping increase their sales prices image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

It really sucks to get sniped by a fellow forum member when you're the one that opened the bidding and specifically posted "no sniping" in the sellers thread. Boy!, some people just don't listen. image

This has been a bad all around day for me. Before I got sniped, I lost my own chance to buy the 1901 S quarter that Jim owned before he upgraded. What a day!!!!

I bid early today on ebay and won a coin by 45 cents. I bet the underbidder was ripped. No sniping needed.

I bid that large cent up to 440 bucks and was still the under bidder so I let him have it, I even emailed congrats, but I reminded him I didn't let him have it cheap. A few years ago I got in a bidding war over the finest 1891 vseated quarter in 65 I'd ever seen, when the bidding got close to 66 money I said it's all his and bowed out and a common 1891 in 65 cost him 1840 dollars.

Some of these people are crazy, but nice coins bring out the crazy in me to.

Les p.s. Jim, you still suck!!!

I was sniped and it really irked me. However, I now max out my bid; therefore, if someone wants the coin more than I do, they had better expect to pay for it.

Never used a sniping program, but the only bids I've ever won on E-prey have been at last second snipes.

wasn't you bragging here last month about how you were sniping others? Its good to see a snipe get a tast on there own. I use to get snipe all the time but I learn, now it will cost a snipe more money to snipe me.

Mac Coin, The thread mentioned about me sniping was in regaurds to an 1861 quarter that had terrible pictures in a Heritage bullit sale.

Bragging? If I was bragging it was intended to point out that I had guessed right about the picture of the reverse not showing the coin at it's best or it would have cost more.

Could you tell by the tone at the start of this post I was kidding ??? Maybe you figured it out when I said I emailed the winner to congratulate him ? No, not even then ? image Got a clue yet ?

If someone wants to pay more for a coin then I'm willing or able to pay, they are welcome to it. The one disadvantage that last second snipers have is that they have no idea what the high bidders max is and if you put in a last second snipe and don't go high enough, you won't get another chance, but it's all part of the wonderful world of coin collecting via the modern age we live in with internet auctions and last minute bidding wars, hey it's all good.image

That depends on how you "snipe". If you put the highest amount you are willing to pay as your snipe bid then it won't matter. This, in fact, is why many people get upset when they lose. The problem I see sometimes is that people complain they got outbid at the last second. Why complain about it? If you had put in your highest bid then you simple lost to someone who was willing to bid more. And, yes, even if you got beat by a penny YOU still shouldn't complain otherwise you did NOT bid your max amount, right? image

IMO, sniping is the perfect way to bid. You don't have others "upping" your max bid AND if you put in your max amount you NEVER pay more than you really want.

sniping is something we have to live with. but I can see why it happens. look at some of the crazy bin price and the seller still wants us to pay s/h

I don't see how any seller can object to the practice. It keeps the bids lower longer so that more non-snipers will bid. If everyone just bid their max on day 1, I beleive it would deter many form "jumping in". This in turn prevents people from getting involved and ultimately reduces the chance they will "stretch" a little to outbid later on.

As for bidders, as some have said, if you simply bid your max or snipe with your max, then if you lose it it's just because someone else was willing to pay more than you.

There is nothing wrong or unethical about sniping. The auction isn't over until it's over, plain and simple. In real auctions they'll occasionally even go back to a lot after the bidding was completed just to enter a late bid. The highest bidder wins, plain and simple.

By the way, Les, you'll be able to get that coin cheaper elsewhere. The bidding war on that particular coin, 20+ bids, really hyped up the coin, though it was a very nice piece. Good luck to you.

I love it when people complain they got beat by a penney. Well, who's fault is that? lol

I screwed up on a bid a few weeks ago. I had changed my Ebay password and FORGOT to update it at Esnipe. I probably would have won the coin outright easily and I kind of felt bad that the seller had to sell the coin so cheap.... image
